I need to watch the highlights again to get a better view of things, but it's clear as day we won't get back to being a top team with Rico being a regular member of our starting XI
To be fair, Rico doesn’t get near our full strength team and shouldn’t be playing as much as he is. We need decent players like him that can come on with 20/25 mins left at 3 or 4 nil up, play some cup games and be happy with that.

I have no idea what game people are watching.

Outside the mistake leading to a corner(no one was showing for the ball), although he still should have just smashed it out, he played great.
I agree, he was one who could hold his head high - especially as he improved after his mistake. He's not perfect but he was alright today

Aside from the fuck up on the first goal and his everlasting reluctance to pass forward (but still point at others to do it?!) - I thought he was alright.
I think the main weakness is that he dwells on the ball too much. The pass to be made is pretty obvious but he has to weigh up two dozen alternatives before making the obvious one. He's demonstrated this aspect of his game since he came into the first team, and it should be a trait that's disappearing, but it isnt'. And occasionally his dithering gets him caught like it did today. How many time did the Dippers just hoof it out of their half. It might not be the Guardiola way but sometimes the occasion demands it.

I see him as more a neat and tidy midfielder tbh. The problem is I think we need better than what he can offer, unless he's content with a bit part squad role.

Meh I thought it was just the usual safe performance, we already have Nico for that job, an inverted FB needs to be creative like Cancelo was and Lewis has absolutely no creativity, but that's on Pep not him for insisting on it when it's obviously not working.

You mean Pep should listen to you ?

Not saying it isn't a problem, but I'm guessing in Pep's eyes the issue would be that he shouldn't be getting isolated - where is the support for him?
He had support and options for passes but dwelled then turned into trouble & got caught. Thought he did relatively ok aside from that. Kept trying and doing what was asked of him.

Did okay, just isn't upto standard to play right back against a top side. Too easily exposed. Khusanov bailed him out regularly. He can't help being slow but his lack of awareness and anticipation just compound it. Had long enough now to reasonably expect him to have improved in some of the basics but he hasn't. Still more than young enough to do so but will it?

Shit in the lead up to the corner for the first. But other than that, I thought he was ok.

Nearly 100 caps.

How the fuck as it come to that.
The mad thing is I know I've put a post in here last season saying I couldn't believe he'd got to 50

Forget his age, if you aren't learning after making almost 100 appearances, then you will just simply never be good enough

We'd still be having this discussion if he got another 100 appearances for us.

I like him and his effort but for me he isn’t and never will be a top 4 level player. He didn’t play badly today particularly but with him and dumb and dumber on the left hand side, it was an easy day for the dippers attack.
