Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Thought it was a decent enough performance overall, midfield is still - hopefully - a work in progress. Khusanov looks good value, Doku was excellent and Savinho second half. Why no near post runs from our midfielders, to give the wide players another option.
You clearly think about your football but the fact you do, makes your summation all the more depressing than some of the less lucid posts from others.

Can't understand why some thought we played well, they won without breaking sweat or being threatened.
Subs were poor Foden absolute dog shit today, he's enough experience to be directing the traffic now.
We didn't play well but you can see that if we were at full strength we would have carried a big threat to Liverpool. See the number of times Savinho and Doku beat their full backs but there was no one in the box

Mate they allowed us to pin them back they were playing a 514 most of the time, well organised and not out of second gear, we could still be playing now and not a have a shot.
One of their easiest wins of season that. They looked in control of that result from the minute they scored. Same as Madrid.

Am I going mad?

I thought the better team lost today and if Haaland's on the pitch we get at least a point

Two individual mistakes and a ridiculously lucky deflection ends up in our goal. Absolutely nothing drops for us for the whole match

I'm getting pelters on a whatsapp group for suggesting this (admittedly hardly any blues on there)... but I stand by it
No, you're not going mad at all and while I wouldn't go quite as far on our performance today I appreciate greatly reading a post which is truly supportive rather than the angry bitterness which inspires some other posts on this thread.

I was looking at City's trophy haul in "the Guardiola years" and had to ask, in view of the club's ability to keep its players, how many games some have played as their contribution. Injuries, recurring injuries, are almost inevitable and they appear to have struck this season with a vengeance. The result today was a back four which had never played together before, a midfield full of experience but short on legs and suffering more than its share of injuries this season - it appears time and injury have finally overcome Kevin's class and will to win, and even Phil appears in need of a good, long rest. And up front we missed the dominating presence of the best centre forward in the world.

Two errors in our box and a deflection (Salah's shot would have been saved easily without the deflection) put us two down, and the absence of of our striking Viking in theirs meant it was easy for them to defend their box. We didn't get any lucky deflections.

Right Back has been 85% of our problem this season. Walker responsible for alot of goals and defeats. Now it's out literal weak point as Rico Lewis is a league 1 player at best.

In training they do rondo. I’m convinced that’s it. The coaching staff would be out of the door immediately if it were down to me.

It’s crazy though isn’t it. He’s been here 18 months and I don’t see that he’s developing at all. He’s got strength, pace and a trick to beat his man, yet he produces the square root of fuck all in 99% of the games he’s played in. He’s not the only one, mind you, but look at savinho. He been here months and didn’t settle, but of late he’s been much more productive and has contributed. I’m happy with that as it shows he is adapting to the league.
It is crazy. Tennis and Golf players have their own coaching teams and many do not earn anything like what a top Premier League player gets paid. I know the data driven Moneyball approach is not everyones cup of tea but if the data tells you where a players weaknesses/strengths are then you can 'educate' the player much quicker than the learning from experience traditional method.

If people think normal service will be resumed next season they're in for a rude awakening. Even with Rodri back and Haaland playing today we seem to be lacking in a few areas.
When teams go this low, it is unlikely to go back to normal service again in the next season. Confidence of many players is shattered this season. It will take some time and soul searching.

I thought we played well at times.

Doku and Savinho were having a field day but we had no end product or nobody free in the box (even though Marmoushs' offside goal was a great finish).
They just caught us on the break, twice!
But i thought we were overmatched in midfield and carved open at times. We'd have been better off putting Kev at the false nine and just told him to stay up and played Kovacic or Grealish (wtf is going on with him!) to battle with them in the middle.

By the result was predictable and at 2 nil up they had everyone behind the ball when we attacked and were quite happy to defend.

We just have to keep players fit now and find some consistent form. If we do and get Erling back up and running soon we should at least keep our top four position.

That was the second game running where we've missed Erling - come back soon big fella, we need you.

I have to give Khusanov his flowers, another good performance, wow! he could be really special! Keep it going lad!

I'm looking forward to Wednesday now, Come on CITY!!!!

Yes let's single out the one player who was a consistent threat out there today for us. Contributed more than Foden, De Bruyne and Marmoush put together.
Not trying to find something to degrade his performance, just saying if he could take his chances he’d be absolutely brilliant and he showed that today with how he played.

I'm glad Forest beat them because they might have gone unbeatable in the league this season, which would have been a nightmare. They are a solid team. It's a shame that no other teams have put up a challenge. The rest of the league is piss poor this season.
