Some fans have decided that Doku isn't good enough and are unwilling to notice his quality. It was similar with Rodri, the difference being that many were even hasher on Rodri.

The only thing stopping Doku from becoming unplayable is the injuries. If he manages to stay fit for longer he can develop into a top player.

He's not my favourite player, but even if Doku isn't scoring, teams are having to double up on him, which means there should be space for someone else to exploit. As it stands, unless he passes it 20 yards backwards to the nearest man, he either has to try to manoeuvre a shooting position, thus running into a packed defence and probably losing it, or crossing it to a loan striker marked by 4 defenders who is never going to be first to it..

He'd be brilliant in a counter-attacking team but we aren't.

One thing that we have missed recently are overlapping full backs. I think it would help him a great deal if he had additional support in overlapping fullback.
This. He is alone on the flank and he does make a cross where is again on or none player.

He can’t cross or pass.

11 times he got past Alexander-Arnold and twice Konate, and I don’t think a single cross or pull back pass ended up in a chance for us and none ended up in a shot for himself.

Alexander-Arnold will have had a sleepless night last night, he was humiliated by Doku’s immense wing play to get past him. But it all counted for nowt.

Doku was involved in the first 5 goals at Ipswich (his last start before yesterday). But we had Haaland and other players attacking the box then.

Our best chance yesterday was created by Doku with a really good pass to Marmoush. If Foden and KDB could do half of what Doku was doing, we'd have created plenty of chances due to having multiple free players in and around the box.

I get what you’re saying and if it doesn’t improve Doku won’t make it here long term. I do think there have been signs of improvement lately.I just think that level of dribbling ability is worth persisting with for at least another year. I know Trent gets grief for his defending but that was unbelievable yesterday. Fairly certain nobody has give him that much of an embarrassing afternoon in his career.

As you say ultimately it came to nothing and that’s definitely a big issue. I do think it was very hard with what we had in the middle yesterday. With the way they defended the box with the players they had in there and the ones we had. He did actually put a great ball across the 6 yard box and a couple of very good passes in. The one that Marmoush could have played across to Foden for a tap in and another where if Foden’s touch wasn’t terrible we’d have had a good chance. It’s very fine margins as if those players had done better he could have contributed to a goal or 2 then his performance elevates to man of the match.

No disputing obviously that his end product needs to improve and fast. One thing i thought he should have done more was go straight at Arnold into the box a couple of times. He might have finally got tackled by him but if he’d got past him in the box head on he’d have had a chance of a penalty or getting a clear shot away.

Yesterday was definitely 2 ways of looking at Doku’s performance. I enjoyed watching the superb dribbling on a day when so many others just looked timid and unimaginative against a very solid physical side. Can see how some would see it the other way though!

If Grealish had put Doku's performance in yesterday people would be waxing lyrical. His final ball needs to improve but he played loads of good progressive passes yesterday, created a couple of chances, yes some crosses were cut out but some ended up as corners and sometimes you need strikers to make better movement.

The standards he is held to are not the same for some other players and i don't understand it. He was our best attacker yesterday but he is getting the most criticism.

He's not great at passing or crossing as you say, but I think Liverpool were more or less happy to let him skin the fullback and then position 3 guarding the front post and the pullback. There really wasn't much on for him ever.

All those dribbles didn't really count for anything. I think Pep should help with positioning another player next to him for better linkup.
Actually he had 3 good crosses into areas attackers need to attack. Front post, middle space and back post. Attackers should be aware and attack these areas. Especially front post with Doku. They just didn't.

Yes there was one where Doku was coming in from the line after skinning Tront again and Doku fired it low front post but Foden spun to the back post when there was no chance that ball was on, it was a front post run needed like Sergio v them in 2019.

Dokus final ball isnt great but its not his fault every time.

I've read somewhere that Salah despite not having the ball much, did a lot more with it when he had it. Undoubtedly true. But it's worth remembering that at Doku's age Salah was still at Chelsea!
I think we need to give him and Savinho a bit of slack.
Salah has pace to keep ahead of the man once he beats him, Doku has a great burst but top speed is relatively low and he cant sustain it

When Doku is 1 v 1, especially against such a weak defender like Trent, players should be busting a gut to get into all the possible lanes...Doku doesn't have that Kevin or Savio type touch on crosses... But he can drive a low ball to the front post or as a cut back. He disrupts the defense enough by beating his man and pulling a 2nd man out of position that our attacking players should be able to take advantage.

And he often looks up for the cut back, only to see no one then he pushes a line drive. Which is still often a good attempt of players are looking to attack it.

Agree he needs better understanding from his team mates but also he needs an earlier 'picture'. Once, When Konate had to cover Tront, Marmoush made a run in the channel but the ball wasnt released and I dont think he tried it again.

Like you say this is where Dokus skillset should be better utilised, in the gaps that form when he beats a man
