Think some of you Rico haters need to dive into his stats, he's scored more goals for us than roque Santa Cruz and played more than Darren huckerby!!

34 appearances this season, pep loves him
You’re right and I don’t think he’s half as bad as the haters on here and he doesn’t deserve the amount of grief he gets, sometimes he only has to set foot on the pitch to get negative comments. He’s a good squad player and until we get football players who are deemed suitable to play in certain positions Guardiola will play him at whatever position he thinks Lewis can play. Which seems to be all over the show.

Amazed how much stick he gets

He gets "stick" because he makes some absolutely dumb footballing decisions that the team, ultimately, pays for. Not because he's shit footballer.

He has limited footballing intellect and ability and tends to play like he's above that and that's why he gets caught out. Like a lack of awareness, pacing, strength and reading of the game.

If he played to his strengths, he would be a much better footballer, overall.

Those are good points

actually I think the best part of his game is when he's further up the pitch and playing in tight spaces, he's a tidy player in those situations, which would be great attributes for a right back if the right back is actually a good defender also, then you would have a hell of a player but the problem is his defensive skills seem to be nowhere near a good right back. if he did play further up the pitch primarily, there's always going to be better players in those positions and that's why I think he's a bit in limbo.

but really when you think about it, it's not that much different to Trent Arnold. He has some good attributes for attacking play but not particularly going to be good enough to be attacking player primarily and he can't really defend either.

Who knows, maybe he'll turn out to be a revelation or find a position where he starts to excel. I'm just struggling to see what it will be but I don't think it's as a right back. It would cause an obvious weak spot in a team.
Constructive criticism for a change…..fingers crossed he comes good

He takes some shit on match day thread…..

Some despicable stuff being said about Rico in here. A local lad who supports the club, who's come through our academy, has been with the club since he was eight years old, and has given his all in a City shirt after making it through to the first team. Has already won the treble with us and helped us to an unprecedented four in a row last year before the age of 20, making valuable contributions along the way. One tough season during a year when basically everyone is performing under their usual standards and the pitchforks have been whipped out. Disgraceful. Not to mention that Rico's only in the team so much because the club captain left for Milan mid-season and City didn't sign a replacement. If his performances aren't good enough, Lewis and Pep will know and feel that more than we do, and steps will be taken to ensure what's best for the team going forward. But fuck me some of the comments in here are a disgrace.

Pep loved Eric Garcia didn't mean he was any good

You can say the same thing for the 100M pound defender opposite him, or any defender this season.
you hate gvardiol so much that you need to lie about his price now? he was not 100m pounds, he was 90m euros, do the math yourself…

Rico was playing too much BEFORE Waker left.

Being local is irrelevant, you are either good enough or you are not. He is not. Nowhere near the level and it is Pep's fault keeping on playing him. He has rarely looked good and has contributed very little to that success you speak of. Why are you so sensitive?

Wow, such a lot of hate in here.

I actually thought he did ok yesterday against a very good player in Diaz, far better than the 33 times capped for England player did against Doku.

Looking at their first goal he should have released the ball earlier down the line although in reality we should have had a free kick just prior but Taylor thought we had an advantage with dippers pressing us just outside the box. Then Diaz is marginally offside when he receives the ball before it is put out for a corner. He is the only player to react to the ball back to Salah but isn't quite tall enough to make the interception. Fine margins etc

He is a very tidy player who will make a good living out of football.

Age shouldn't come in to it.

He's approaching 100 appearances for the club now and he's not progressing.

Agreed.

A player has a pattern about their play/ footballing intellect by this age. It's incredibly rare to see a player suddenly switch their whole footballing personality halfway through their footballing career.

For context, Khusanov is also 20 and has played 5 games, 4 of which have been Chelsea, Madrid, Liverpool and Newcastle.

I've seen enough already to know that he's going to be some player for us in the future.

I'm no fan of Lewis, but this context is unfair.

In the same amount of games, BM said the same of Lewis as he was new on the scene and created a similar impact.

Khusanov needs more time to get a fairer comparison.

I just hope Pep comes to his senses and stops playing Rico instead of more capable players, at least with Garcia the relationship didn't have long enough to take hold between him and Pep.

Just a body in the team right now which I guess is something. Realistically he should be like 3rd choice at RB and instead we now have him starting in the top games.

Doesn't have the physicality for the role.

But then you could argue that Rico has been at the club for 10+ years and should effectively be 'ready to go', also being able to speak English should be a help.

Rico looked OK in a team that were wiping the floor with everyone over a 3/4 year period; he's not the only one that's being found out a little bit now that this isn't the case.

Thought he had a decent game yesterday, very tidy in the tight spaces but lacks physicality and pace. World class full backs have all 3 attributes whilst the best of the rest have 2 of the 3.

Difference being coming into the men's game, not Under 8's upwards.

I expect to wipe the past clean and work off the potential saddled upon the player, so if Lewis gets 30-100 games to show his skill/ ability, so should Khusanov. We have to take in learning curve, adapting and decision making in that time.

Only then it's fair.

He's a good player for 20 and likely to be a decent back-up for us for a long time. However, a Premier League winning first choice right back, he is not.
