Per the word, over a period of time. When did this transition happen?
Now, I see and understand the trap laid, but you must see that as time has caught up with the people executing Pep’s style, the style of football that has become prevalent amongst the top teams in England, and as exhibited by Real Madrid, is much faster and being executed by players who are bigger and stronger than ever for their speed and technical ability. It is an evolution of the game that we have been witnessing.
Also, while I agree that Pep’s success at City has been extraordinary and speaks for itself, we cannot lose sight of the fact that we have only won 1 title in any fashion that could be labeled “domination.”
We have squeaked titles on the last day of the season with last gasp comebacks against mediocre teams! In our best season ever we won the CL on one goal in a game where it was miraculous the opposition didn’t score at least 1 goal.
Football success often boils down to small margins, and often second place is seen as “first loser,” but we should be mindful if the fact that while in some games 65% possession has created a springboard for a comfortable victory, that same 65% has been meaningless against st teams that are dynamic on the break, bigger and stronger from free kicks and corner kicks, and they’re not always teams anywhere near the top of the PL table or their respective league.
I have no wish to argue over Pep’s magnificent record at City. None. But no man is immune to criticism or able to ignore the passage of time and the changes it brings.
Grow or die. That is the law of the Jungle.
