Plymouth Argyle (H) | FA Cup | Post Match Thread

Just stated a fact
I have no idea how they play week to week as I don’t watch them
We got the job done with a second 11 albeit with some experienced players who are in my opinion past their best
That's what I thought. The danger is that against lower league sides the manager undercooks his starting eleven and you are against a team that delivers far greater commitment and energy than they do in the league. Liverpool were massively undercooked and got done, we had a few major ingredients missing in the mix but still got the job done. I've just watched the BBC highlights and until the third goal went in the commentator was willing an Argyle equaliser and when we got the goal the tone changed and the general tenor was that we should have had six. Keown was rabbiting on about how passive it was but two lines of five where the opposition will only venture into your penalty area when they scab a corner doesn't allow for rapid defence splitting passes. But I've always said and I say again - defences have to get it right every time. Sooner or later the concentration will drop and bingo!

What did i miss.
A 6 out of 10 at best for me.
Doku and Savinho were missed today.
No pace on any of the wings.

Overall poor, we needed two set pieces to break through second from bottom of the championship. It shows that we no pace or zero direct players on the pitch that yet again, if a team as poor as Plymouth can contain us pretty easily. The slow, boring build up days are gone and Pep needs to wise up to it. Glad KDB got his goal but it is a hard watch him struggling against that level.Into the next round though, no CL to stop us playing our full strength the rest of this comp now, we chucked a load of semis in the past with having a difficult CL tie cropping up
Let’s hope he learns a thing or two from you eh? Thanks for your wise words. I’m sure Pep will appreciate and learn from them

Yes they beat Liverpool who had arguably two players from a their possible starting 11. They was also at home. We had Bernardo, Grealish, KDB, Foden, Gundog, Ake, Rico etc all players with many first team minutes under their belt. Whilst arguably more of a second string side yesterday, it was not comparable to Liverpool playing the likes of Nyoni, Mcconnell, Quansah and such like players. Put it this way, we had 5 players on the pitch yesterday we played against Madrid at home. Congrats though, you have shown a severe lack of footballing intellegence with that comment. Us looking shit yesterday is completley and utterly irrelevant to them beating Livepool at home. Just a couple of week ago they went to Blackburn and lost 2-0 why is that not the example? Why is the measure not their season as a whole fighting for their lives to stay in the second tier of English football?
We looked shit??? Seriously we played against a team with 11 men camped on the edge of there own box!! We still won 3-1 could have scored 7or 8 easily yesterday conceded 1 shot 1 corner and 27% possession. It was absolute cruise control 1 of the most dominant performances u are likely to see. We ground Plymouth into the ground yesterday keeping the ball and moving them around. They were knackered after 60 mins and couldn't maintain their level due to that. Let's put it into perspective villa beat a similar team with a virtual 1st team on Friday night and they were not as dominant as we was oh and they won with 2 late goals after they had run Cardiff into the ground. I don't see any negative words about villa's performance it was actually lauded by that dick known on m.o.t.d after he blasted us for our performance.

Did you watch the game? KDB was excellent throughout. Better than he's been for quite a while. I thought Gundo did well too and had his shot have gone in rather than hit the post we could have been looking at a cricket score.

They defended deep and with good discipline, the coach clearly knows what he's doing. I also thought they deserve credit for not resorting to over physical tactics. I didn't notice any nasty challenges or reducers, and they deserve a lot of credit for that.

FWIW I thought it was a very good performance from a scratch side against a highly motivated and physical opponent that's only 1 league below us, not exactly a non league fairytale.

I've just said the same thing to Mrs Ewing. McAttee's goes in off the post, Gundog gets a bit more power on his header, both he and Erling get over the ball and not under it in the second half, Bernie buries two, their goalkeeper has a similar game to the ones he delivers in the league, and we have a shedful. The fact that the one corner Plymouth had was lucrative and it set the media off on a frenzy of the fuckin' 'magic' of the cup! Orgtega was on a sinecure for 90 mins of the game! It could easily have been a repetition of the Irwell Shinkickers game! But then our team would have been accused of disrespecting our opponents!

That's what makes Jack unable to operate as a winger. He just doesn't have the trip spring pace of Doku or Savio and is somewhat wasted on the wing. Pep seems to think that if yer a footballer yer can play anywhere. You can - but the more you move into other positions the less effective you become as you move away from your normal berth. If Jack were to move to another club he would be planted into central midfield!

He gives me nightmares when he starts running cross field with the ball. If he loses it there or gets fouled and it isn’t given, we’re massively exposed. He usually ends up passing it anyway - something he could have done right away with significantly less risk.
We should have 2 wingers on the same side. When Grealish trots off inside it leaves a big gap for the second winger to waltz into.
