The Squad planning thread

Pep intends to keep all of Gundo, Kevin and Bernardo.

A goalkeeper, centre back, right back, two midfielders, possibly a centre forward and we’re good to go.

In reality, Stones and Ake are the equivalent of one fit player.
Not sure if we can force them to leave or if they would like to leave voluntarily but something has to happen
Maybe, but we can't make all the changes in one summer so we'll prioritise. If next season the main centre backs are Khusonov, Dias, Reis, then Akanji, Stones, Ake as cover, to rest the first 3 plus maybe Gvardiol comes in to the equation that will work.
I think this summer the priority will be making room in midfield to bring a couple in to replace KDB,Grealish and Kovacic or Bernardo ,bringing in a fullback to replace Walker, probably then replacing Ederson. Centre backs will be the bottom of that list and may need to wait until the summer after,

A winger or two that scores some goals also (Savinho 2 goals in 36 games now this season), plus an Attacking Midfielder. We have a serious lack of creativity, KDB maybe coming to the end, but still chipped in with an assist and a goal yesterday.

Surely we don't require anymore Centre Half's, we've got 9 already (Granted some need to go and are injury prone now). And no bona fide Right or Left back.

I would think that of Kevin wants to reach the World Cup after a good season he should a mid table team where he is the main man so that he plays more often. No?

Where’s this belief that Kev, Gundo and Bernie will all be staying come from. I’d be happy for KDB to stay if it’s on the massively reduced wages. With it looking like Wirtz is ending up at Bayern then I’m not sure who the second choice for that position would be

Pep’s comments probably, I have a funny feeling the club are slowly trying to let us fans know that there might not be much movement in the summer.

Cambiaso is a versatile player, but primarily, he's a left-footed LB. If we bring him in for that role and use Ake as a backup, our CB options would be Ruben, Josko, Rels, Khusanov (and personally, I’d include Callum Doyle). We could keep Stones or Akanji as cover for a new, yet-to-be-determined RB. That would completely sort out the defence.

The main priorities then would be two goalkeepers—Carson’s contract is up, and Eddy looks set to leave for the money. We also need a striker to share the workload with Erling. I don’t think a £100m splurge on Wirtz or Musiala is necessary.

✅ LB – Cambiaso
✅ CF

OUT:

❌ Walker
❌ Phillips
❌ Carson
❌ Gundo
❌ Akanji
❌ McAtee
❌ Lewis (loan)
❌ JSP (loan)

KDB seemingly extending by 12 months probably means no Wirtz or other high profile AM. Provides more funds for a proven top class CB. I’d be all over Nico Schlotterbeck who’s only 25 and arguably world class already. Perfect ball-playing CB who’s super strong defensively. I’d be fine with Stones, Ake and Akanji all leaving and have Dias, Schlotterbeck, Khusanov and Reis as our CBs. Callum Doyle to stay as backup LB and extra CB cover, while O’Reilly is another option for LB. I reckon we could get Schlotterbeck for around £50-60m which would be a bargain. Alternatively go for David Hancko, who’s 27 but still an incredible player and available for around £30m
O'Reilly has left back well covered. Not to mention Gvardiol himself is a CB. Even though we've begun to stop thinking of him as one

If O'Reilly can become a great Pep left back ( and i believe he can) then we really dont need Doyle to stay. Let him go on loan and develop

Oscar Bobb & Claudio Echeverri
I think both are viewed as attacking mids. I think he meant CM/ DM.
Beginning to think we don't get any central mid in.

If Kev is staying and one of Kova or Bernie or Gundo will stay too. If The old guard don't leave, new blood can't come in.

Doyle has been on loan for 4 years.
It's now or never for him

Bloody hell, I viewed this in dark mode and wondered why you had ignored RW & couldn't be arsed to tot up the totals for foreign etc.

Good work. Mitchell is an interesting shout
