North Stand Construction Discussion

What’s the bland architecture of a building got to do with the running of a football club? They’re completely distinct.

Saying you don’t like a building isn’t moaning.

Architecture is like music or fashion. Some people think some buildings look shite, just like some people think some songs/albums or a style of jumper are shite, while others like them.

I think that hotel looks like a 1950s office block in somewhere like Coventry. Could be a decent stay with good rooms, nice food and good service… yet looks crap from the outside.

If you like it, crack on. I don’t.
Funny to see people taking criticism of the shit looking hotel so personally though

The tvs and food places and everything still look great. The crap looking hotel won't bother me much, my biggest issue is probably that it blocks the view of some of the ground, but with the back of the north stand and the massive tvs and everything it will still be quite the spectacle on match days.

Reminds me a bit of the marriott at piccadilly built in 2007 I think:

And it's a step up above ancoats Travelodge at least:

It's right though, a 350 million pound development that's no where near finished and they 'don't like it' ??? As a City fan to come out with that is embarassing, all the shit we get thrown at us and our own fans...i say that loosely, have a pop ! Well you know what ? Support some other fucking team....
I love the commitment our owners have shown through this development. Especially in the face of a litigation and media tsunami.

I’ve been on X/Twitter and it’s full of Southstanders sneering about the North Stand and “tourists”. If only more of them could turn up by kickoff to sing for the lads, their opinions would carry more weight.

You seem to add 50m to it every time we speak ;)

Interesting comments at the end. Last sentence. Highlighted.

I wonder which other hotel operators pitched for the hotel?

Adela Cristea - (Vice President, Business Development UK & Ireland at Radisson Hotel Group) - Linkedin

I am proud to announce that Manchester City Football Club’s new hotel will be affiliated with Radisson Hotel Group!

The 401-room hotel, known as The Medlock, earmarked to open in late 2026, will join the Radisson Blu family and will form part of the Club’s £300 million development at the Etihad Campus. The guests will have access to a wide variety of food and drink outlets, a roof walk, museum experience and the UK’s largest indoor arena, Co-op Live.

This global flagship hotel is a fantastic addition to our growing portfolio of stadium-based properties in the UK, such as Allianz Stadium Twickenham, Home of England rugby and the renowned cricket ground, Edgbaston Stadium.

It is an absolute pleasure to work with Roel de Vries, Gavin Makel, David Falk and the team, many thanks for your trust and looking forward to a great collaboration!

Jon Colley and Valor Hospitality Partners, delighted to work with you on this exciting project!

Owen Pritchard, Julian Kemp, Katie Goertz, thank you for a highly professional, yet intense operator selection process!

Also.

I've always quoted 350...that's what i've been told the final figure will be :)

400 million ish

380/400 million is what I've been told from a very reputable source.

There are more, but no point posting them really.

The official reported and claimed figure has always been 300m. Has never changed.

Anything else, is speculation, rumour, or people exaggerating for whatever reason.

And given it implies the club have fucked up, and you don't like anyone seeming to 'criticise' the club, it really isn't helpful.

Wow i've got my own stalker !

Haha, don't flatter yourself.

I've made the point before.

All good though mate! You want to add an entire hotel or office block to the cost, fire away. I'll say my bit and round and round we go.

I don't doubt you have been told what you have btw, nor that they are credible either, fwiw.

Does anyone remember seeing a interesting fact about FFP and what can be considered for inclusion. I seem to remember that anything like hotels or shopping malls or concert venues had to be within a certain proximity to the stadium or actually attached?

Can't find it now. Could be the meds!

Looks like the Werham Hogg office block from The Office has had a slight upgrade.

While this is a joke that keeps giving and has always made me chuckle,

I think it is safe to say from what we can now see on site so far, that it won't actually end up looking like that.

Pending the horizontal panels whick will imo make or break it.

Their development and build costs are definitely excluded. I think their income from how I understand it can be included, if part of the stadium. I think the hotel and office will income will count, but the arena won't.

Do you think the horizontal panel design/ colour is yet to be agreed ? Seems very strange none have been fitted as yet ?

Yes, that's how I remember it. There are obvious advantages to connecting them but it may have been necessary.
