Nottingham Forest (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Read my post again; I agree with that. I'm just not sure it'll happen. Certainly not in one window.
this old pep team took about a season or two to grasp, so expecting the same time frame

I’m as despondent as the next Blue at the present situation.
But for me.
Pep’s football does work and it’s not finished.
You just need players who are clever hungry and technically up to it. Which we’ve had in spades over his tenure. The jury is out on the current crop.

Kev was a breath of fresh air though. He actually knows to move to the next open pocket so he can get s pass. Why our other midfielders don't do that befuddles me.
Was he? Only deep. He carries no threat in tight spaces and his work off the ball is awful.

Shocking games from Bernardo and Foden. So much possession, so little end-product.

Pretty much every sub made us worse, and I'm not talking about the performances but more what it did to the game and specifically to our game.

We removed all presence from the centre and splayed right into their hands of a quick break by taking off Nico G. Switching Doku and Savinho just didn't give any improvement, no crosses for Haaland at all. Lewis was ok but he got too involved in the centre (probably because we lost presence elsewhere) and left us open with three on three.

Could have been a different story if we'd have hit the target more than, what was it, once? But we didn't. We were afraid to shoot, had no real conviction, especially the attackers, for that team to not give a serious goal threat is really disappointing.

We're far too predictable. We're far too slow in thought. There is no spark, and again for this team to not show a spark, two tricky wingers, several creative midfielders, a goal machine in Haaland and one of Germany's top scorers just recruited, is head-scratchingly worrying. That said, we could have still got a point if we didn't yet again switch off. You know what Forest are going to do, especially that late in the game, and we rolled out the red carpet for them to do it and watched on. And we weren't content with that, after they'd scored we let them do it a couple more times, only Khusanov stopped it being more.

I don't believe there is too much wrong with us that can't be fixed, I think we've still got a fair chance at champions league qualification and I still think Pep is the man to get a tune out of us for next season. If that Nico shot goes in it's a different game, but to be relying on such chances is not sufficient for a team expecting top four. We're bloody hard to watch at the moment, not enough of them willing to take a chance or a pop at goal.

Back to the training ground, let's hope we can find a fcking clue by next weekend..

Could Grealish be any worse than Kova? I doubt it. Ridiculous 1st time swing at the ball when we had the chance to break, he had time to put his foot on the ball, move forward and then make the pass but the numbskull makes that silly 1st time pass and 20 seconds later, we are 1 down.
I don’t think anyone could be worse than Kova tbh.
He’s useless.

Well that was an insipid showing. Neither side deserved to win a tight game. City don't move the ball quickly enough znd are too predictable. Their goal was totally avoidable. It was really poor defending and goalkeeping. Gvardiol gave Hudson Odoi far too much room and a keeper should not be beaten at his near post.

We were so wasteful. The chances that Silva, Foden and Haaland has needs to be on target and one should be in the net. Sallad does not miss those type of chances nor does Isak.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. Also worth remembering the last Ferguson side won the league by ten points before it all went to shit, sound familiar?

It's going to be tough. Where do you find another De Bruyne? A right back as good as Walker was? A goalscoring winger like Sterling in his prime and Mahrez? That's why Pep hung on to them so long, it's difficult.
