Why does Stuart Pearce hate City so much?

I had the pleasure of watching his career, from forest to England International. His goal, the penalty against Spain, got the whole country buzzing for euro96.

Would have easily been part of peps team mainly because he just did what was asked and did it well. Proper professional imo

He certainly was Professional,,the consummate professional footballer.

When you think of the problems weve had with left backs over the years ,.....I wish we'd signed Pearce from Coventry City for peanuts back in the day ....Brian Clough spotted him and the rest was history.

A semi professional footballer ,part time electrician,he was still a sparky while playing at Highfield Road
On joining Forest he was still unsure of a career in professional football ,and in the early forest match programmes he had his own advertisement for electrician work,...quite a shy humble almost reluctant Football star emerged,...he turned down a professional contract offer at Hull city whilst playing non league at Weadlstone
not wanting to uproot to the north from London....he had to be virtually dragged into top class Professional football,...When he arrived,he made the very best of his abilities,and playing in a defensive unit with the incomparable Des Walker ,was part of one of the finest defence to play the game in this country.

Pearce of course,was left back for forest at the Hillsborough disaster, and he was defending the goal in front of the leppings lane terrace where tragedy ensued,Liverpool were attacking his side of the pitch right at the time events took a turn..........Sometimes,we as fans ,forget what players went through that day ,and how they showed great resolve to come back from that ,Pearce went on to represent England in major tournaments after with their own personal turn of events for him......a fantastic brave career,imo.

I dont ever remember anyone getting so much stick from the crowd at Maine Road as he got that day, I did actually feel sorry for him afterwards, I think he even said after the game he should never have left us?, I just remember the whole ground singing "Fu#k off Mcneil from Maine Road" to the tune of we are sailing :-)

I was on the Kippax Maine rd when he scored a goal for forest described as ' the longest one-two in history '
Pearce at left back pushed forward aggressively with the ball,and played a neat pass inside to a foward player,Nigel Clough or Ian woan iirc....but continued. His run down the left wing now running at full speed in anticipation of the return ,crossed the half way line ,kept running,ball was played back to him from the forest forward ,.,..by now Pearce was on the edge of 18 yard box, he put his head down as if to continue to the bye line,..then stopped,changed direction ...and suddenly he was in the 6 yard box ,and slammed a left foot shot past our keeper.

When he got up a head of steam,nobody was stopping him.

I agree with most of what easy however being pedantic and you may argue a bit of a prick but the bit about hillsborough is incorrect. Liverpool were defending the leppings lane end. I doubt Pearce or many of the players actually witnessed the actual horrors that were going on in the pens at that time.

With regards to Pearce. Top left back. Terrible manager although those two months when he was caretaker manager were pretty exciting and gave me reason to be optimistic about the clubs future.

You forgot the 400 Odd First team league appearances and the 87 goals from left back ,most, if not all in the top division,with 87 goals scored. One of the most high scoring left backs in British football history.Outstanding.
When you assess a mans career,don't just pick out the bits to suit your agenda.
Give a bit of balance....: )

Had a bet on Pearce to score and City to win that game 4-1, 165/1. I was well chuffed, not. Sent him a letter enclosing my "failed" my betting slip which he signed adding "I owe you a goal." Excellent inspirational player, limited coach/manager

Thank you for the correction. I've just checked..I'd been a bit confused as I was thinking of what ,my old forest mate Andy told me,on the Monday after the game in work,...that up until the stoppage",it had been a brilliant game...Beardsley had just hit the bar"
I've always remembered those words. We worked together in Nottingham at the time....

Watching the video back it is of course Liverpool defending the leppings lane end..,...and Beardsley did hit the bar with a brilliant volleyed effort...which,imo, ....was behind the last fatal surge from Liverpool fans trying to get into the ground.......in those days,we can all remember what it was like if you were late in,and you heard a roar...you pushed even more desperate to get in...

I'm not saying Pearce saw anything that day........he didn't need to. The stench of grief was all around the ground, every player fan manager felt it.
I was at Blackburn that day with City....my trains back included calling at Sheffield, I'll never forget the deathly silence as the train rolled into Sheffield station,few forest fans got on..nobody spoke a word....the train rolled out of the station .....deathly quiet.
If I can remember that haunting feeling.....and I wasn't even at the match, I bet you Stuart Pearce felt it pal.
The point I was making, and it still stands,he was there, and came back from it.

Everybody says he's a crap manager. He was definitely very defensive,but he kept us up.
If we had gone down that season......do you think we would be where we are now ?

All Blues ,imo ..should show respect to the man,who did his best,every time,on and off the pitch.
And after suffering a heart attack,at 62 years old,maybe now is not the time to criticise his time as our manager.

I remember the post-match interviewer asking Pearce whether England would be lodging a protest - "I hope not!" was all he said. Just part of the game, no grudge held.
Genuine hard man, not like today's lot who seem to suddenly grow a pair on social media, only for them to shrivel up on the pitch :-)

There was a clip posted on here showing Pearce (co commentating) with Adrian Durham and Jim Proudfoot ( match commentator) for Talkshite for the chumps league final. At the final whistle Durham smiling and punching the air, Proudfoot didn't seem to react but maybe having a moment as he was doing all the work in game but Pearce looked thoroughly miserable and actually this wasn't a surprise as I had caught a couple of games when he was co commentator on us earlier in season so it's a no respect from me i'm afraid.

Aways were much more fun especially in those days. At the end of that season there was a bit of optimism after keegan had faded away so badly. The end of that season the games always seemed to be on a sunny day and I was young and everything seemed good.

Pearce actually did ok for us for a while and it carried on to the 2005/06 season where we started well and had some decent results.
A couple of little cup runs as well that ended in quarter final defeats but it wasn’t all bad. I think the majority of his signings didn’t work out and he spunked relatively big money of samaras and it didn’t work out.

When I was at Gillingham after euro 96 they played forest in a pre season and he was friendly with the staff/players etc and came across as a decent person.

No idea if he hates city or not. Maybe he’s just indifferent towards us and isn’t a fan boy like Neville or carragher. I don’t think he goes out of his way to slag us off and as a caveat I don’t see him being an over the top cheerleader for forest.

I think he just saw football as a job and did it pretty well most of the time.
