North Stand Construction Discussion

Please stick to the subject of the thread, namely the construction going on at our stadium. There's a united thread in the general forum if you're that interested in what their plans are. Thanks.
Fair enough Jim.

I was just referencing their plans for the Stretford End home end after United consulted with their fans, compared to our North stand home tier after City consulted with our fans. I'll leave it at that.

I'm discussing it on the United and Andy Burnham threads now. :-)

I thought the same thing. Messes with my OCD.

But if you check the top of the cap it’s slightly offset so it’s meant to be that way.
I think it is because the new roof will be slightly curved so the offset is probably an engineering thing so the cables are tensed to bear the load evenly

Preferred you when you're posting pics of "aesthetically pleasing" tower blocks going up in the city centre.

"TAXI!!!!"

Maybe the truss is scared of heights, or just likes hanging around.

There were some comments a while ago suggesting that the hotel looked boring and I was thinking maybe that's so. However, when I look at the photos above, and the computer generated images of the finished works, the design looks anything but bland. It's a complex of hotel-stand-office tower with a fan space below. I don't think we can separate one piece from another.

Beam 2 of 14 in, 12 to go. Well, in two-third segments at least, the reat all to come at some point later.

What do we recon the depth is of that sail at its widest point? Hard to tell at an angle but looks at least a good 700mm, maybe even 800ish. Glad to see they didn't spindle the shit out of it.

wonder if we will see cladding going onto the connection piece now its completed with concrete ?
I think so. I was looking at it in the drone videos the other day, there is so much of it (glazing and cladding panels) stored on site, and a lot already on the building. And with the office yet some way away, it must all be for the rest of the hotel including the linking portion.

They'll want to get that on and watertight, then the sails can go on outside while guys can crack on Radissoning it up inside.

From looking back at cpoverview’s excellent videos it appears to me the sail is about half the width of the glass panel which I guess is c.1200 wide so 600 -700 seems a reasonable guess ??

Annoyingly, I can't post a photo with the beams on the ground. I reckon between 3-4 ft depth

Wondering if they might do the front part of the beans via the pitch at the end of the season. Could use a combo of the main cranes along with mobile cranes to help put the pieces together then. Maybe the track they’ve created on the north stand roof could be used for this though.

Yeah easily. In some of jrb's photos off the ground the back ends look not far off the height of the hoarding (granted raised on small pedestals). And there was a photo someone posted from a distance of a dude walking along the beam where the protective sides looked well over 1200 high unless it was rico lewis.

Going off those the beam could be anything between 1.5m at the deeper end to a metre at the shallower end. Certainly huge (sorry, massive).

makes sense as its going to have rooms in that bit aswell so will need to watertight etc otherwise the rest of hotel won't be able to be completed
