There’s a growing movement amongst fans now about these issues right across the premier league. You can sense that in the end fans will coordinate themselves and make some noise and make at least some kind of difference. English fans are a big part of the “ product” and as soon as fans unite and start to damage the product action will come quickly.
City are in the perfect position to move in the direction the ball is travelling, not where it’s at, They have 8000 extra seats to sell and at existing models not enough demand. They have a large influx of tourists and also a large group of priced out fans.
A model could be put together which caters to the football tourist who will clearly pay for a once-off experience, but also leaves room for lower income fans. Surely there’s an answer in this new stand, pricing it cheaply and aiming it cleverly, so City get the PR of having led a seachange in match day pricing, lose the “empty seats” tag and fill the stadium and improve the match day atmosphere- which encourages those who will pay more to come for an experience. A long term financial model can be built here easily.
