There can be no possible scenario in which he plays for city next season if we want to get back to any kind of level we have been previously. He is now just a passenger who manages to make even that role look difficult.

I honestly think he's been okay, is that a controversial opinion? I think he's gotten better as the season went on.
I think he’s doing as well as he can. He is just past it.

For years, the midfield has been the heartbeat of our best sides. We’ve been head and shoulders above pretty much every other side in world football in the middle of the park. Not anymore. I don’t think that’s Gundos fault though. He was part of one of those great midfields. Poor recruitment has put us here, not Gundo.

We can't even get those late runs and goals from him, it's just hopeless.

Genuinely going to go the whole season without a PL goal, with big minutes too. Unimaginable a couple of years ago, just can't get into the box.

The role he was asked to do was the problem and that’s on Pep. He would be better if Pep just told him to double pivot with Nico. Gundo played the 6 in previous seasons and he did it well.

But forget that, how this guy keeps getting chance after chance is mind blowing. Hes a clear problem. His lack of legs is killing us as things stand.

Kova
Foden
Kevin

And even Nunez would give us more then the Gundo that’s returned.

Thought he was OK for the first 45. Really ran out of steam in the second half and needed replacing when it became apparent. I don’t think we won second ball for the whole second half and that was due to the lack of legs in midfield, Gonzalez aside.

I’m far from advocating him playing week in week out, but as long as there’s no Bernardo or KDB in the same side, he’s good for 45 minutes.

We have to part ways gracefully in the summer as part of the rebuild.

A shadow of his former self and stopping the development of young players, albeit that part he can't do anything about.

I always thought he was a brilliant eight and a pretty average defensive mid. Said it at the time that he should not have come back.

On course to make more appearances in the league this season than he did in the treble winning season

I'd also like to add, that his all around play in the treble winning season wasn't great, and you could see he was struggling to get around the pitch, however he was clearly instrumental in us winning the treble and scored some vital goals

Crazy to think that he was going to be anything like the player he once was, and it shows how poorly planned this squad is that he's played in almost every league game

No-one will accept this, but if you watch him carefully he was doing some fairly useful stuff against Brighton, on occasions. Some very neat little passes that suddenly opened up space in front of our attacking players, and let them run at Brighton.
However. Moment late in the second half when Brighton absolutely should have scored (there were several — they really should have won that match).
Mitome (I think) gets away down the wing. A Brighton player in midfield, close to the halfway line, sees what's going to happen, busts a gut from midfield to get to just outside the box. Gundo tried to track him initially, and then he's just left gasping in the slipstream. When that player arrives, there's ten yards of clear daylight behind him. There's also ten yards of clear daylight in front of him to the goal mouth. He completely fluffed it, thank God.
Now it is true that three of our defenders drifted over towards the wing to see what was going on, like cats mesmerised in the headlights of a car. Not one of them glanced over their shoulder to see if anyone was coming through from midfield. And that has happened on numerous occasions this season. I've noticed it. So it's on the defence too. But Gundo simply cannot track back at anything close to the required pace, and that's been obvious since he came back.
I wanted to give a balanced assessment of his match, for once. The good things. And the really not so good. It surely must be his last season at a club that now has ambitions of qualifying for the CL every season, and maybe getting a trophy in the process?
A great player, whose race is run (now reduced to hobbling).

Agreed.

I think the situation also highlights just how far the academy prospects in our squad are away from being top players.
