How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Sorry to reply to an old post.

This is a good image of how truly isolated the UK has become militarily thanks to Brexit.

(translation - it makes not a single jot of difference).

That picture last year would have sent the right wing media onto apoplexy. Maybe you too?

All the "project fear" about an EU army has disappeared. It'll just be NATO without the Americans. We might have to liberate Hungary though.

I thank fuck that 48% still want to put themselves up for European wars always worked out so well for us.i’ll line the streets to cheer them off.
So-basically, you're a coward and not prepared to fight to safeguard Europe. I assume you never had any relations that actually did just that!? But at least you got a new passport!

It will be the ultimate irony. We leave the EU to avoid being involved in a European army, only to end up being in a European army but with none of the EU trade benefits.

What a weird thing to say.

Most people who have ancestors that fought and died in WW1 and WW2 are proud of the fact they fought for the freedoms we all enjoy today rather than thinking they wasted their lives liberating foreigners.

In WW2 certainly, the First World War I’m not so sure we didn’t throw away a million of our best people and the nations wealth for what exactly to make the USA rich?. I know this is a right little echo chamber for the same few where any other opinion isn’t tolerated but do any of you stop to wonder why it was so many left of centre deindustrialised areas of the country voted overwhelmingly to leave the EU. I’m not sure it was because they wanted a new passport.

I don't see what this has to do with an EU army?

Are you suggesting to throw Mark Rutte out of the room in that picture?

This picture is actually an illustrated point to show that you do not need political unions to act together.

No, it was a glib reply. But it is the main thing that the average man in the street has to show for it. Those areas voted to leave because they believed the cheeky chappies Farage and Johnson promising Gold at the end of the rainbow. But let's not forget the biggest group that voted for it were the over 65s, not the average working person.

To be honest mate i don’t believe it to be true that the vast majority who voted to leave believed Farage and Johnson, working people who used to work in skilled manufacturing work saw absolutely no benefit whatsoever from our time in the EU, people usually vote for the status quo so it should have been a doddle for the remain campaign but it wasn’t why do you think that was ?. Majority votes in Labour strongholds to leave weren’t by the over 65s the constituency I live was packed with manufacturing work now next to nothing voted 62% to 38% to leave not returned a Tory MP for over a century. People were genuinely pissed off with the status quo and for better or worse voted accordingly.

Odds are you wouldn't be here posting this in English if your families hadn't "wasted" their time in the war.

Worth thinking about.
Well my Grandad considered he’d wasted 3 years stood in mud which left his feet knackered for the rest of his life and his brother who’s lungs were shot for the rest of his life don’t know what his other brother thought about it as he’s buried somewhere on the shores of Turkey.

You think Mark Rutte will last long as head of NATO when Trump goes full Putin? He'd be first candidate for head of EUTO.

Great post and this is fundamentally why many in the North did vote for Brexit. They were poor in the EU and they'll still be poor out of it.

We need to give these people a livelihood and currently we're not, we're doing the opposite and taking it away. Nobody has cared about them because well the plight of the north-east isn't a problem compared to the growing service and financial sectors in London is it?

We're instead telling them to be happy whilst they fight over the scraps of handfuls of jobs to build cars for companies from Japan or work in an Amazon warehouse where the spoils are ultimately sent far away from here.

I empathize with that, but it shouldn't be considered a waste. Rather, they were commendable sacrifices. Without the heroism of your Grandad and your great-uncles the last century could have been very different for us; and not for the better.

I feel for the people who want to broaden there horizons and try and make a living in other parts of Europe
The young who have had the right to travel into Europe and savour the different cultures .
Taken away by by a generation of people who still thought we were an island nation who were still great.
Glad I fucked off seventeen years ago
