Russian invasion of Ukraine

The Swedes don't mess about do they?
84 days to create an anti drone weapon from concept, through design to delivery of the first few units.

Takes us 9 months to do a roundabout

Think there's more to it than that, France have a different agenda from the other countries in SAFE.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to exclude member states from buying from British defence companies. I suspect we will agree to a defence partnership with the EU (why wouldn’t we?) and that should resolve this issue and even open up us both contributing to and benefiting from the fund.

We all need each other on this topic.

All EU leaders reaffirm support for Ukraine's borders - except one

An update from the European Union summit being held in Brussels today now.

All EU leaders - with one exception - have backed a statement reaffirming the bloc's "unwavering support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity".

The exception is the man below - Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

It's not surprising news, as he's often a thorn in the EU's side who disagrees with his fellow European leaders.

He's sympathetic to Putin and last year met with him to discuss a potential peace deal in Ukraine - long before the recent round of talks about ceasefires kickstarted by Trump's return to the White House

Military plans have to be ready if deal reached, Starmer tells Sky News

Military plans are being drawn up in case a deal to stop the fighting in Ukraine is reached, according to the UK's Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Speaking to Sky News, he said the planning by his so-called "coalition of the willing" - thought to include around 30 nations - had started today.

He said: "Those plans are focusing on keeping the skies safe, the seas safe, the borders safe and secure in Ukraine.

"We're working at pace because we don't know if there will be a deal - I certainly hope there will be."

He added it's important if there is a deal, "that we're able to react straight away".

"That's why we're doing this work today," he said

Unfortunately, as parroted all over. Brexit means Brexit. The EU will always favour EU companies. there's no surprise in this im afraid. This is on Par with France blocking, say, South Africa from it.

I do think some deals will be done for this mind you as speed is of the essance and this would slow things gown. and it wont stop individual counties spending there own money where ever they want to spend it, if a number of EU countries by UK supplies then it kinda forces the opening of that fund as they will want to have conforming hardware.

Starmer speaking to 30 countries this afternoon on the peace keeping force.

It’s more complicated by the day

It's not more complicated, it's actually clearer by the day. This peace deal is nothing more than an asset grab by the shitgibbon on the back of russian aggression. Once shitgibbon has satisfied his hunger for ukrainian assets, and putin has set the borders where he is satisfied, only then will america and russia agree the terms of such a deal, leaving ukraine with the hobson choice scenario of accepting it (unlikely) or continuing to fight without american support.

The onus is really on europe and the UK to have a viable plan in place to continue to support ukraine when that day comes

US taking over the power plants would be the best protection for them, says Leavitt.

Surely that's tantamount to an admission that no-one trusts Russia to stick to any deal? If Russia did stick to a deal, there would be no need for 'protection'.

Ukrainian workers control the Nuclear power plant only they and their families know what’s needed to keep the reactor cool. Since Russia blew up the dam there is no water supply.
If you mean Russians outside guarding the plant are replaced by American troops I can’t see Putin allowing that.

ah, I was assuming it was in a region that Ukraine would hold.

Obviously different if it's Russian-held territory - then it's Trump bartering for assets.
