Open Letter on Season Tickets and Pricing | Club announce price freeze on "general admission season tickets & PL match tickets" for next season (p163)

I’ve loved being a glory hunter for 50 years.

I do agree with you to an extent. For example, the safe standing seats in the expanded North Stand should be the same / similar price to South Stand L3. The prices in those discounted areas shouldn’t be affected by success / failure.

I didn't say you were a gloryhunter, just that's their logic.

That the "worth" of a football club or the value of the matches is affected by the on pitch success. I think that's wrong. I think its something that has become so embedded in football fans that we accept it as an axiom when its fundamentally a flawed position that positions football as an entertainment product like the theatre rather than a cultural product.

This will be the future of football as the older fans like us die out. When we started going to the game the world was a totally different place. No internet, streaming and multiple live games on television. Going to the match and the pub were affordable and regular treats for the working class. Now both are rapidly becoming rare luxury treats and people will start to.limit themselves and the old diehard home and away fans peter out.

I can't believe that people just blindly accept the idea that on pitch success is a reasonable justification for ticket price increases.

That's glory hunter logic.

I argue about this every single year when the price increases come until im blue in the face that id be (and id wager a vast percentage of others) there whether were playing Barcelona or Barnet, yet every year we have people defending what is quite frankly the indefensible

have the club done any tracking on the seats they sell at the start of the season in one big go where those tickets end up, who is in those seats during the season. Not many real fans can afford to buy upfront. Do these go to touts who then sell them on ? The situation seems to have got worse non City fans in our end since they started selling tickets this way. Real fans can’t buy tickets in this way - all tickets on sale at the start of the season in one go

The short answer and this is just a hunch, the club doesn't appear to care where the tickets go as long as who ends up with them (a) pays more and (b) knows where the fucking club shop is.

Its done purposely to artificially raise prices ie create a demand. Only demand not there

I think city have already set the ST prices they will have 2 sets 1 on champions league qualification and 1 without. I'd imagine a freeze without and an 5% increase without.
Why though? Should have no relevance

If we fail to make CL we pay out a lot less in wages, much of it topped up by bonus

Why should fans pay for mis-management in the summer transfer window?

There is more than enough money at the club and in the game.

We win the treble it goes up. We have a bad season it also goes up.

You don’t have to accept that narrative. It can only happen if people let it happen.

Me and my mate were discussing the charges and getting relegated at the game on Saturday, and both of us agreed we wouldn’t be really arsed if we were found guilty and we were expelled from the PL for five years and we entered the Championship next season but couldn’t get promoted from it until 2030.

We’d still go every week.

No relevance to what we should pay
Same as champions league bonuses are reduced for players if we don’t qualify

They can meet fans agree a freeze

It doesn’t matter what league we are in thats the start middle and finish
From the fans perspective but not from the club's perspective. They are not one and the same.

I know we are all (or, mostly all) disappointed at the boardroom’s lack of communication and openness about recent fan groups asking for meetings and more open dialogue around ticket prices for next season, as well as other things with regards to the future of ticketing and the new NSL2.

Another price rise will be a massive kick in the teeth after Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham have announced they will be freezing prices for next season (at least). I think the club’s silence is because they have already decided they are putting prices up and in their eyes there’s no point in meeting with us or being open with their dialogue because it’s too late and that’s that.

But I don’t want us to all feel so brow beaten by the club that too many ditch their season tickets or even just Cup Schemes.

I know that every price rise each year hits a certain number of fans so hard that it takes them over their threshold and they feel like they have to give up their tickets or come out of Cup Schemes. But I’m emploring everyone to rethink this sort of measure because once you give it up, I doubt it’s ever going to be available to you again.

I think we need to start thinking about doing things like sharing season tickets with Family & Friends so you can share the price of tickets, or you have the ST for PL games but allow F&F to go to the Cup games on your ticket etc. so we have as many proper fans in the ground as we can, but not just having the burden of massive ticket prices to pay for on our own. And it’s much better to Transfer tickets to F&F than relist it to the club because the club often just sell it to random daytrippers who may or may not be City fans, they aren’t arsed.

We can’t let the club just keep washing their hands of us because it’s diluting the stands too much. I know they don’t care about loyal long-standing, mainly local but not always local, core supporters anymore, but we are more important to the team than any other fans in the world and we need to be in that stadium.

So, Blues, please let’s find ways we can keep our tickets so we can keep attending!

All ideas welcome…
The problem is people like my son, miss a number of games through his work. If we by-passed selling the ticket back to the club, then he would go over the threshold and lose his ticket for next season

We both came out of cup schemes this season, his availability and the extension of CL games being some of the reasons.

I already get 2 tourists sat next to me at every home game. The tickets previously were season cards.

Maybe it will change, not re-selling vacated season cards is the real issue
