Best Opposition Player You've Seen Live v City.

Zbigniew Boniek in 77/8 Uefa cup game v Widzew Lodz at Maine Road was incredible. From memory we were 2-0 up and he started to play. The game finished 2-2 and we got beat over there. A chap came on the pitch from the Kippax and had him by the scruff of the neck at one point in the second half (don't know why?). We ended up with the fences up for all european home games after that.

The Berbatov game for me. Never seen anything like that performance before or since. I recall Modric running the show against us once for Madrid and a weird one..the only other time ive stood in the stand thinking 'what a player', was Marcelo for Madrid against us. Cant recall the year but he was just ridiculous for a left back.

Yeah, mad how much he stood out that game. Gundog for Dortmund is up there too

Gerry Gow for Bristol City at Maine Rd, Sept '77.
Andy Gray & Kenny Hibbett , Wolves c. Jan '79 (??)
Possibly unpopular on here, a young Remi Moses for West Brom, c. 1980 sometime. Same height as Rico , but a bit more beef on him, good motor , could tackle & pass equally well.

Going way back to the late 60's or early 70's when Mike Summerbee was in his prime I saw Ian Ure of Arsenal defending against him. It was an absolute masterclass and I don't think Mike got past him once in the whole 90 minutes.
Must have been after Ure's time at the swamp ...players always improve after they leave that slum.

I know he's been cancelled now but Dani Alves was brilliant first time we played Barcelona here. Seemed to play two positions at once for the full 90 mins.

Absolutely. Every. Single. Time.

As a young kid you see things through unbiased eyes.

During that period, I know the players who burned snapshots into my mind.

Maradona, Zico, Platini and Dalglish.

I only got to see Dalglish live and what an incredible player. Seemed to win by four every time my dad brought me see City play Liverpool?

Which is why when Clive Wilson scored and we beat them on Boxing Day, it felt like we had won a trophy!!
Dalglish was the very best player in the country, and one of the best in Europe, for 5/6 years, yet seems weirdly underrated and rarely mentioned these days.
Sure I read somewhere that the team he scored most against in his career was us, which certainly fits in with childhood memories of him tormenting us every year

Always stood by the view that Maine Road's pitch was ideal for the footballer best in class.

Thierry Henry, Kenny Dalglish, Gary Megson etc.

I don't get why so many are saying Messi never had some of his best perfomances against City, I guess it's sellective memory from trauma :) ? This game I think he didn't even score, yet...

Scored a hat trick over there in 2016 without even trying.

Yes, he had that hat trick once at least and other games where he at least scored or assist, yet particulary the match I've upload it's a gem. It was bizarre for me reading that he never showed his best face, that one it's one of his best matches ever.

He even score a beauty like I've said before with PSG in his more troubled time as a pro.

George Best

I've got to go along with that. It so happens that I went along to Old Trafford to see them play Chelsea when I was at a loose end, the boys being out of town (some of us did that in those days, I can't be the only one). Strictly as a neutral, naturally, and I stayed as far away from the Stretford End as I could. I couldn't get enough football in those times, even went along to Edgeley Park. Best scored a stupendous goal, dribbling from something like the half-way line.
Incredible natural gifts. Stupid that he just drank it away.

I'm pretty sure many old school dippers consider him to be the best player ever to have played for them.

I can think of no player I've seen who kept the ball so jealously close to his feet. He was in love with that ball.
