US Politics Thread

The Rapture is tomorrow. Mothers Day. I forgot to get something and the shops are shut.
I thought of starting a Mothers Day thread but as you've raised it...

In a programme about changing attitudes to motherhood, the dangers to women in the USA (Gilead) are here already. Talking about changing attitudes generally to letting children have more freedom, the presenter recalls "sweet cigarettes" for kids, then speaks (from 14.00) to an American author about making women criminally responsible for what others do to their children. Frightening.

Seen this pasted about, mainly with people laughing at this thick ****, I mean no idea who this daft bastard is bit seriously how can people know fuck all about geopolitics yet spout nosense is beyond me

Russia could nuke the US in 30 mins already and China don't do military strong arming beyond taiwan, they influence with investments and loans, they have already a global network of influence in Aftica, South America and Asia.

X is chock full of morons spouting shite which is why I only ever see it these days when people post links on this forum. Do us a favour and leave the garbage in the cesspit where it belongs.

Signal Gate - an unprecedented breach of national security - ticks on. And coverage wanes. And wanes.

It looks like team MAGA will get away with this. Nothing to see. No secret information disclosed. Such is the cowardice of the GOP to oppose Trump and the ruthless efficiency of project 2025 members of Trump's inner circle at weeding out nearly all internal opposition.

To wit, team MAGA has fired numerous (all?) Inspector Generals (IG) including the IG responsible for the Department of Defense. It remains to be seen if the interim IG of the DoD has the courage to pursue an honest, factual investigation into Signal Gate, and if he attempts such, how long he remains in office.

As opposed to BM which is full of perspicacity?

Out of the three, I’d far rather be aligned with China than the other two. What’s so great anymore about a world where the US can do what the fuck it wants with impunity? Why is it objectively preferable that the US has control over Greenland than China, given the way the former is acting? I’d definitely trust China in its foreign dealings than the US or Russia right now. Or rather I’d distrust them less.
It’s a no brainer. China uses the carrot. America uses the stick.

One way to combat the loss of all those South America migrant workers who recently dissappeared... Child slavery.

WTAF???

It’s true it’s shocking, but I fully expect some radical policies coming to the fore in the years ahead as our demographic problems continue to worsen. Not just in Europe either. Reducing the minimum working age and increasing the retirement age both being ways at chipping away at the problem, whilst not solving it.

It needs full reform, the system is not fit for purpose.

Hungary passed what was dubbed the ‘slavery law’ a few years back giving employers the right to demand staff do compulsory overtime but defer paying for it for three years. This was done to keep non-EU immigration low.

Florida is home to retirees so deporting migrant labour is finding yourself in a hole and then digging deeper. Demographics is like betting against the house. In the long run you can’t win. Make the kids work? Sure, and when you run out of 14 and 15 year olds then what? 12 years and above? 10 years?

As you say chipping away at the problem but eventually you run out of road.

I think the only conceivable solution to the problem is robotics and AI. Otherwise I fail to see how the old can be cared for and there be any sense of productivity in the economy.

The reliance on electromechanical solutions puts a further burden on the already struggling energy sector. All that extra power needs to come from somewhere which then accelerates climate change. It's an absolute mess.
