Disagree.

What's going to matter is if the economy is worse under Trump or not. If Trump somehow manages to turn the sinking economy around in spite of his idiotic tariffs, MAGA popularity will continue unabated.

Why do I disagree? COVID deaths had zero impact on MAGA popularity. It'll take something much more lethal than COVID in order for death from disease to overtake the economy as the primary influence on election outcome.
Sadly, he is trying to create a sinking economy to get interest rates down for his mates. He has realized jawboning Powell is making him look a bit desperate, so he’s touting the America First mantra to impose the tariffs, then will drive the economy to the cliff, get a couple of interest rate cuts, claim victory when the stock market likes that and turns around in Q3-Q4, then try to ride that into the Mid-terms in late 2026.

The plan is pre-determined. Whether he can thread the needle remains to be seen. Lots of moving parts and any one of them could sink the whole thing!

MAGA is much bigger than Trump. Even if Trump were to die, some other radical right candidate will emerge as the Republican nominee. And will get roughly 50% of the popular vote when running for president.
I disagree. I think MAGA is a cult of personality, just as it was with Reagan. Yes, Bush Snr (his VP) did get elected, but the bloom was soon off that rose and then we had 8 yrs of Clinton, when the economy really did boom and the budget ran a surplus!
The silver lining in Trump's second term - if there is one - is that Trump is carrying out an agenda that is so far radical right and/or based in lust for revenge, that he's pissing off large swathes of voters. And his fascination with tariffs, I think, will be the determinative factor in the midterms - because I think that Trump's tariffs will tank the economy.
See my previous comments on this matter, which I’ve discussed numerous times now.

They are on about stagflation now though, I mean he’s made thousands redundant in government alone, when the social security cheques stop coming because they’ve Musk has screwed that department up as well you are going to get a lot of pissed off people.

There's a much simpler explanation for Trump's behavior and policies - the guy likes tariffs and thinks he knows better than anyone else.

Moreover, Trump's economic policy and embrace of tariffs are likely to raise inflation and keep interest rates higher.

Trump is strictly transactional - his actions are entirely for self benefit. That Trump would intentionally do something purposefully designed to "help out his mates" is unlikely - his actions may coincidentally help out others on his side, but if so, it's down to random happenstance rather than by design.

If he's deliberately tanking the economy, then perhaps he's doing that because hes's confident there isn't going to be another election any time soon?

Perhaps I’ve not been paying enough attention but the lack of opposition to anything the current administration does is a bit weird. Apart from Sanders, it seems remarkably quiet on the Democrat leadership front.

Think I saw Mark Kelly appear in the news too but that’s about it. I know Pelosi plans to step aside but it’s left quiet a void in terms of the media presence in UK.

What do you expect them to do? Nothing works. They aren’t going to convince anyone to change their minds. Those who voted for Trump are going to have to figure it out for themselves. That’s going to take suffering or some moral awakening on their part brought about by what Trump and Co. do, not by anything any Democrat says. And for most of them, no matter what Trump does is fine, so not even their own suffering will work as they’ll simply blame Democrats for it.

Where’s his tie?

Or is he trying to pull off the metrosexual Zelenskyy look?

What is it about him that makes you want to drown him with your bare hands?

Why on earth should the people of Greenland give the slightest fuck about it being good or safe for the U.S?

IF it is for the security of 'the west' let's hear some other world leaders on the importance that it must be 'taken' and can only go into American hands.

Such a bizarre political landscape............

Yep. That’s it in a nutshell. I really wouldn’t be too surprised if the Pacific coast states and the New England states ended up eventually seceding from the union if things go badly in the midterms. Unlikely but not impossible.

What the democrats should be doing is documenting everything shitgibbon does and fact checking it, clearly stating what the impact will be on american citizens and shouting it from the rooftops.

They won't change everyones mind, but when things start to happen as they have said, some people will start to change their views.

Sitting sulking in a corner is a cowards way, frankly I'm not surprised they did so shit in the election if this is how they behaved leading up to it. They need to grow a collective pair and make their voices heard

I have discussed this, too. Trump benefits Trump, but he also has a phalanx of big money supporters lined up waiting for their cut. Interest rates gives them that.

We can parse his motives and reasoning until we are blue in the face, but one thing is clear…his actions are putting many millions of Americans and possibly hundreds of millions (billions?!) across the globe in jeopardy of a less enjoyable, less productive and less safe existence.

They won’t change anyone’s mind. Anyone’s. Not everyone’s.

They aren’t sulking. They are standing back. They are doing what everyone in the Nixon administration did when it was obvious he was going to get convicted and impeached. They knew they couldn’t convince him to resign. They knew they had to let the full force of his fuck-ups take his face off before he realized it was the right option. And eventually he did. That’s what the Democrats are doing to MAGA voters. Yes, they will continue to call out his lies and they are, as is a good-sized portion of the press (which is why Trump wants to shut them down). But Democrats talking about the pain and suffering to come isn’t the same as MAGA voters actually feeling it. So let them feel it. I mean, we all will. But the rest of us already know what the remedy is. Until MAGA comes around to the same conclusion, talk is cheap.

And when the Fed tries to steer the course between inflation and job losses by keeping rates steady, Powell becomes Fauci 2.0 — the cause of all American ills — exactly as I have been predicting.

I don’t think that will ever happen personally. No one really wants it on any side. Now if Trump is serious instead of performative about expansionism, and using the military to take territory by force — which I also doubt highly — all bets are off on what the future or structure of the nation looks like.
