Gas & Electricity

What I'm about to tell you will show how we are all ripped off for everything in the UK.
My wife's an Algerian and she's currently over there visiting family. We built a large house there many years ago and all the rooms have gas fires that are lit 24/7 from November to March because the location is very cold in the winter. The bill for that will be approximately £30.
On a side note LPG is 5p/l and diesel 10p/l, no council tax, no Vat, and income tax is low.
If they had golf courses I'd be over there in a flash.

It’s getting to that time of year thankfully when the clocks go forward an hour in 2 weeks, it’s getting lighter every day, and it’s starting to get warmer.

So, do I stick with my fixed gas and electricity price tariff from last August, meaning I have avoided 3 energy price cap rises, or do I go on a gas and electricity tracker rate tariff for 7 months during Spring and Summer months, which will include the 3 energy price cap increases?

Bear in mind I live alone.

I’d stick if you can change without charge. I fixed in October with Octopus and can switch whenever without fees.

Bloody mad last Monday gas was £3.12 when it was chilly, turned off heating a few days ago 14p on Friday! Told the wife it’s off until September now.

Just been billed £945 for the last quarter dual fuel. Fortunately can afford it so its paid but I am not happy with it - whenever I do a search "savings" seem minimal - hassle maximum ( most linked to having a "smart" meter which I don't want ) so just got to hope for a warm Spring, a hot summer and an elongated Indian Summer then brace the buttocks for next winters assault because the UK consumer is arse fucked - any thing with Of at the start of its name ( Wat /Com etc ) as a regulator is a waste of time. Like making me the pot hole Czar ( zero experience ) and saying if you want to know how its done speak to the pot hole fillers and they will tell you what they need to charge for the work - here's a rubber stamp so you can get holes filled. Fucking joke.

Thinking of going on Agile next week.

Currently on fixed tariff from August last year.

All set up for Agile.
I've got the correct meter that gives half hour readings.
I just have to click on the Agile email link then I'm on Agile, which I'll do on Sunday when the clocks go forward an hour.

Jesus do you live in a castle or do you have a grow going on in the loft?

No its just 3 adults in the cold north who like to keep warm and see things who have loads of screen and devices

Us too pal, heating on 22 permanently and devices galore. 170/160/140 last 3 months in a 4 bed. Even using the dryer 3/4 times a week. Seems high that.

I also forgot to mention fridges - freezers - tumble dryers - hoovering and the washing machine going most days

I’ve just moved over to Octopus Agile.

Let’s see what happens to my electricity bill over the next 6 months from April to September. My August 2024 fixed tariff ends in August, so I will have to change the tariff anyway in 4 months. It will be interesting to see if I make any savings at all, or if I spend more money on electricity.

I’m currently paying 23.20p kWh for electricity.

Agile for tomorrow.

Gas and Electric bills are high because we buy so much power from foreign sources. Our political classes have surrendered to the WEF and the eco warriors.
As a country we are sat or Gas (Especially Pensacola field in North Sea) - rich coal seams (Thatcher ensured that our coal would be foriegn). Oil fields we are not allowed to drill and power stations being closed because they use fossil fuels.
Whilst we allow our politicians to cow tow to the disjointed eco wanker theories then, we ask for high bills.

I bet Starmer doesn’t have to pay for his gas and electricity usage whilst he is living at No10 Downing Street.

You don’t agree that burning fossil fuels causes environmental damage?

Smart meters are ok when they work. Mine only does gas. The electricity readings have never worked. They do help you understand how much you are using and help you tweak your central heating to save money though. On balance I think they are positive.
