Would the impact on the local franchisee and local employees not be much more detrimental?

This came up recently in Malaysia when people were boycotting because of the US support of Israel. People in the government were arguing that you'd just be harming local franchisees, and that's definitely true. But this idea that it'll cost jobs is BS. When people boycott McDonalds, they don't stop eating out, they just eat out somewhere else. Somewhere else that is more likely to keep their money in the local economy and actually pay a proper rate of taxes.
