Gas & Electricity

Saved £12 a month by moving to Outfox the market from Sainsbury's for dual fuel. Not much, but better in my pocket than theirs.

You don’t agree that burning fossil fuels causes environmental damage?
Try telling that to China and India who account for 48% of the Earth's environmental damage. The UK accounts for 0.9%. As long as you have eco loons in both Labour and Conservative Governments the UK consumer will always pay the highest energy price of any country in Europe.

Yes, we all want to live in a clean environment, but we should not be paying extortionate prices as well as some people living in fuel poverty.

So you accept you want a clean environment but prefer to match the action of the lowest aware nations? That does not compute.

And poverty is caused by extortionate housing and rent mainly. Fuel poverty is when you’ve spent so much elsewhere you have nothing left for utilities.

We can either choose cheap fuel and no future or pay a premium to stand a chance for our kids.

My dd has gone down from £65 a few months ago to £40 , i changed to ovo fixed for one year and have been really pleased with then , never once did edf lower my dd , just put it up all the time

After a week on Agile there really isn’t much difference in my electricity usage and charges from the week before. Let the experiment continue and see what this week brings. The real saving is on Gas due to the warm April weather.

The first full monthly electricity cost is in for April on Agile.

Gas is Fixed 2024 V2 which ends in August.

My mother passed away on the 12th March. On the 16th I advised OVO of this. They told me to call back when we no longer needed electricity. 20 minutes later they cut of the electricity. No problem.
She was over £1000 in credit but couldn't refund the money to me as Barclays were the executor. Again, no problem as I was arranging to become executor.
However, today I have received an up to date bill. Her credit is down to £780.00
Not sure how this can happen.

All very well and good but....

Why are we paying the highest prices in Europe for fuel and one of the highest prices on the planet?

All this money is owed to companies that are owned by foreign governments?

I haven't checked but I understand US consumers pay 25% of what we pay... why? We are too small to be what Starmer (and admittedly Sunak) and others before them and absorb all the associated costs want us to be, which is in the vanguard.

I just want to see some justification and accountability for our high bills. It is not a good look.

Could be the charge for leccy from the last meter reading they took to the most recent one?

Check her recent bills.

Out of interest how did they cut off the leccy?

There’s lots of statistics out there that suggest we’re not the most expensive based on kWh. Higher than EU average but lower than Germany, Ireland and Italy. Gas unit prices are lower than EU average in the article I read. Of course standing charges and usage differences between countries affect the comparisons quite a bit.

ah i used the wrong thread - i wonder if we need to start looking at fix priced energy for a couple of years...

I’m going to do that before the start of Winter.

My fixed price gas ends in August. And I’m currently on Agile Octopus Electricity.

One thing that I’m really annoyed about is paying more in standing charges than Gas and Electricity trough the Spring and Summer months.

The difference so far this year.

Just fixed my gas on octopus but these companies are taking the piss the standing charge has gone from 28 to 34p a day so even if you don’t use it that’s £10 a month last year it was around 24p! These need to be fucked off so that higher users pay more, put it on the unit use instead.

I can refer you for Fuse Energy if you want, standing charge for me is 0.28p and 0.056p unit rate. You get a free spin to win £25 to £150 in credit too. Only pay for what you use too which I prefer. Depending on your area might be cheaper than my tariff.
