Exactly!

Pep’s “system” helped create the best British team in generations, but as he rightly says himself, he needs some of the best players in the world to make it work in the manner intended.

This season, he has been severely limited in the quality and combinations of players he has been able to utilize, which has meant a lack of cohesion and balance…which is the entire ball game!

The problem, of course, is that lacking the personnel he feels he needs, there is simply not the quality to slice and dice opposition. This leads to turnovers, fast counterattacks, and a vulnerable Back 2/3 getting exposed on a regular basis.

What’s crazy is that, bad as this season has reportedly been for City and Pep, we are still in a Champions League position and in our seventh(?) consecutive FA Cup Semi-Final!

As I have said repeatedly, the game has developed to challenge us over the past few years, because teams have not only learned how to blunt the inverted full back (and other Pep foibles) with the low block and then counterattack us. This year, with the injuries and aging squad, many have shown they’re passing us…with often inferior players, but better team set ups.

As I have also said repeatedly, the game has, for the most part (with the possible exception of some players at the absolute zenith of the game) overrun us with size, speed and strength put into a tactical framework that works for the personnel they have recruited and developed.

We need some more of each, preferably players with all three!
What that says to me is that Pep's old and used up tactics that have been passed by can still deliver as consistent results as these new teams that have left us in their wake. And that's while missing numerous key players and the team having clearly aged out.

Paisley took over from shankley. We won the league twice before pep. If we get the pep from 2-5 years ago back then great but for 12 months solid he's performed badly and I think it's ok for city fans to say that without being called "entitled" whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean.

Entitled means daring to comment anything negative!!

I think we agree on a fair amount, especially the bolded part.

My argument for Pep staying would be that a) he has enough credit in the bank to be afforded a poor season (by our incredibly high standards) and b) replacing Pep is going to be incredibly difficult. Even more so, if the new manager is coming into a struggling side. I think Pep can get us back on an upwards trajectory and replacing him then, might be a little easier on the new guy.
While I agree Pep has plenty in the bank I actually think it's easier to take over a team that finishes 6th rather than one that has done the double.
It gives the new manager a bit more time.

It means, we can all see this team is no longer capable of producing the football Pep wantat the level needed, and needs refreshing.Yet after all he's delivered they don't beleive he has what it takes or should be allowed the chance to rebuild the team and get back to those levels. They believe they are entitled to constant success at that level with any season of drop of or transition. Fortunately most of these people live on the internet were nobody takes much notice, not in the Etihad boardrooms and stands.

The club world cup is my major concern. Pep (and about 80% of the team) looks like he needs 3 solid months off. Even with a normal summer he's not getting that. The tactics need a rejig - not a complete overhaul, but an adjustment. I don't know if we'll have the time on the training pitch to produce that.

It's pretty obvious that we're going to limp to the end of the season now and excitement is going to be pretty rare. If it gets us to top 5 then it's worth it, if not he'll have questions to answer.

There is an element of ruthlessness about De Bruyne going. I'm hopeful we'll see more of that streak before the summer is out

I don't believe that the average city fan, angry at the performance of the team, believe they have a right to success. After all, most of us have known more bad years than good. But I do believe that they are allowed to complain when standards drop, regardless of where those standards were.

Complain a bit or throw everything down the drain, baby, batwater everything? Very different things.

So you think we are going to finish 6th?
I was choosing a number. Obviously the bigger the number the more patience we'd give the new man.

Had Pep called it a day last year and Alonso had taken over he'd be in trouble already.

I hope we do finish higher than 6th, although a lot on here are suggesting lower, CL is a must for next season, well for the club I mean, I personally couldn't give two fucks about the CL, however it would be slightly sad if we was not to qualify for it.

Pretty sure we'll finish in a CL place, don't even think we'll need the 5th place safety net, that will be Villa or Newcastles.

Injuries have screwed us this season, wrong times and wrong players at the same time, it's just a freak season on that score, nobody can deny it, not an excuse, it's reality.

Yes, he has played certain players a lot more than in hindsight he probably wished he hadn't, but considering were we are at in the league and still in cup semi I think it's remarkable that we are.

One final push now, let's be honest, we could and should win all our remaining games left.

But.....and there's always a but, can he rebuild a squad to take us back to the summit in 2 years, I dunno myself.
There's been about 15 -20 games since October that we could have and should have won. We didn't though and in plenty of them deservedly beaten. No indication that's what left will be any different. The team is full of non scorers which handicaps us from the first whistle. How the fuck we keep adding more of them is a shocking indictment of our recruitment. The defense will need to be our rock during the run in because we simply don't score enough goals.

2nd top scorers in the league.

I think if we'd won yesterday it would have exerted pressure on Forest. As it is Newcastle with a trophy in the bag should get one if the 3 spots. It always helped us winning the LC.

Villa have a lot on their plate. So may be Chelsea and us battling for 5th.
