The Squad planning thread

As everyone has seen midfield is the weakest part of the team.

Sources in Spain saying we would offer ridiculous money for Lamal which would solve all Barca's financial problems at a stroke. However letting him leave would be suicidal for the board.

But I'd offer them serious money for Pedri.

A midfield next season comprised of 3 from

Rodri, Pedri, González, Foden and O'Reilly

With

Savinho, a year older, Haaland and Marmouch up front.
If they desperately need the cash, I'd rather have Pedri with how our midfield is. If we can afford him and Wirtz, our midfield is looking good unless Gonzalez somehow doesn't fit in already.

Rodri, Gonzalez, Pedri, O'Reilly, Wirtz and Foden along with whoever of the current midfield that don't get moved on is a good setup.

Issue is how much we're still allowed to spend after those two because we desperately need fullbacks, a winger and maybe a center back.

I really hope it was Viana who decided KdB won’t get a new deal. Nothing to do with Kev but simply we need someone who’s going to take these players away from Pep and say this is what you’re having instead

This rebuild is going to be bigger than what a lot of people think.

We should be moving on Gundo, Kova and Bernie. Kev obviously going. We realistically need to spend 200/300mil just on the midfield alone.
I really hope by now that nobody is going to be surprised at the rebuild.

One of the big issues we face is that apart (from the obvious ageing midfield) we are losing Walker and probably Grealish. Means our only association trained players (other than Carson) are Stones and Ake. At the moment it’s hard to see much future for either based on their injury record. Our squad will need 17 foreign players supplemented by the likes of Foden, Bobb and Lewis. We have seen the issues with too small a squad this season and next season is going to be incredibly arduous.

The issue with buying English or from premier league clubs is the premium. The question will be who is available that is high enough quality to play for us but doesn’t eat up most of our transfer spend.

Can’t see Newcastle selling Livramento, Wharton will be £70m or so. Gibbs White close to £100m. Who else is good enough to play for us?

Will we see Viana looking down the leagues (he picked up Gyokeres from Coventry) or someone with so far unfulfilled potential like say Spence at Spurs.

Only have space for 1 for Grealish, shouldn't be too hard to get one if needed. Dont see Ake or Stones going yet but lots of young potential talent about tbh

Don't be too surprised to see City go after the domestic market this summer.

PSR will open up opportunities and perhaps more realistic valuations, as opposed to the continent.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Wharton, Branthwaite, Delap, Rodgers, etc.
I'm more interested in who leaves and thinking about how much room we have in the squad before thinking about how many and who we can bring in.
Obviously Walker, Phillips, KDB, but we still need a couple more to go before anyone can come in, depending on what we do with Reis and Echeverri.

The homegrown quota will have to addressed.

Walker and Grealish are gone, McAtee will also be sold.

I expect Stones to run down his final year but that may yet depend on a difficult conversation with Pep, if he expects to go to the World Cup next year.

Kovacic and Nunez, gone.

At least one goalkeeper, gone.

A big purge is coming, at least eight.

Who's going to pay Grealish's wages? Never mind a transfer fee.

Walker and Grealish might not be playing for City next year - but we will be paying most of their wages.

None of the 8 that leave will get us a transfer fee except anybody that fancies Saudi - and that might only be Ederson. Most will leave on loan.

Shambolic squad planning.

The Daily mail are saying we’re unlikely to trigger Delap’s buyback and United have made him their top target. I would hope we’d go for him he would give Haaland more rest as we have a very long season ahead. It would be great to not have change our entire setup if Haaland is out.

Very presumptuous. There will be a fee for Grealish and plenty others.

This summer market is about creating squad space and removing high earners so Pep gets what he wants.

Pep telling Kev it was time is worth £400k a week to the wiggle room.

Grealish already has somewhere lined up.
