Liam Delap

You're living in a dream world if you think professional footballers don't follow the money.

The status and quality of life playing in Spain for Real Madrid is beyond any other club. It's the dream move for elite players.
There are differing levels though.

Bellamy wanted to play all the time, knowing he’d be paid well enough wherever he ended up.

Danny Mills knew he couldn’t get better money than at City and decided to forgo his playing career.

Some will have aspirations to move abroad, whilst others won’t. It might also depend on the opportunity to play CL football, like Tomori and Abraham have done.

If Delap returns, he knows he’s getting lesser games and minutes off the bench unless Haaland is injured. At this stage of his career, I’d be very surprised if he did want to come back as it would show a lack of ambition, unless he truly believes he can bench Haaland.

why didn't aguero silva kdb want to move to madrid if it's the dream move for elite players they are the biggest team in the world no denying that but that doesn't mean every player wants to go there like i said you speak so much waffle it untrue

Real didn’t make any approaches for them, that's why. Real want Haaland, Haaland will go at some point. He's not stupid.

Now where did you sit at Maine Road?

I wouldn't be surprised if that figure is closer to £150m. There will almost certainly also be a 'no CL qualification' clause in his contract.

Real Madrid are biding their time. They want him, and when they're ready to pay, he'll go.
He’s not signing a 9 year deal if he wants to jump ship in 2-3 years. He came here instead of certain teams so I expect him to have a Ageuro like tenure.

Marmoush?
Absolutely, he’s a Alvarez that is better in midfield.

Why we want a 6/8 hybrid as well because of Rodri.

Haaland and Rodri are monsters. Out and out world class players that get in every team and play 99.9% of games if fit.

Better in midfield maybe but id say wider midfield than central

Not sure he is a better striker though....certainly not as a number 9

We need creativity and legs in midfield - not necessarily in one player

With Rodri back (hopefully) we have Nico also that can play in there...he can be more of an 8 (not sure he has the creativity yet -he could have) - from what Ive seen of him previously he can also be a goal threat (we know Rodri is as well) -maybe even Nico as the 6 and Rodri a bit furthe forward...both rotating around each other in that respect?

What we do need in the summer is someone creative however centrally - a David Silva or KDB replacement.....the only one mentioned so far in all of the rumours who even comes close is Wirtz - the rest are pretty bang average players

I think Nico and Marmoush are great options. With Omar we will need him more as a 10 or winger than striker because if fit Haaland will play, that’s where he’s better than Alvarez for us. I’m not saying he’s a better player than Alvarez or a better 9, he’s not but he suits our system better as he’ll be able to play the 10 better where he’ll be most of the time.

With Nico I’m confident he’ll get better game by game. Rodri is the best example of a Spanish player coming over and adapting to not only the English game but also Pep. It’s the hardest position to be great at.

I do think all the other names that aren’t Wirtz won’t be alternatives to him. For instance MGW will be to replace Bernado for example. When we were bidding for Rice there was no public knowledge that Paqueta or even Nunes were being looked at as alternatives. We are clearly in the market for new midfielders with Kov, Gundo, Bernie and Kev all potentially leaving and we are probably looking at some new incomings being homegrown hence names like MGW, Wharton, Rogers being thrown out there. When it’s off season we’ll have a better understanding of real targets in my opinion. The only one for me that we clearly want is Wirtz and we have leaked we want him etc. because that’s the hardest one to do by far, we need him to know if he came to City he’d be a key figure right away and essentially take over from KDB.

Love this post

Think you are spot on about Marmoush..he played today a litte more wider from the left and it really worked for us and him

Fully agree on Nico G as well - seen someone saying earlier this week that he wasnt rated....I certainly rate him and think he is a very good option ofr our midfield.

MGW is a downgrade on Bernardo or whoever you bring him in for....he is just not an intelligent footballer.
I also belive we need to move those players on you mention (which is basically the heart of our midfield squad)

Wharton has shown nothing to me to make me think he is ready - good player but is he getting in our starting 11 over Rodri or Nico G - I dont think he is close to them two
Rogers is just a pipe dream as he is an ex city academy player - Ive not seen any links to him but - yes very good player but would he come in to compete with Haaland or is he going to play wide of Haaland - Im not sure.

Wirtz is the closest to KDB out there - I dont see us getting him as it seems to be well known that his family and him want Bayern - Id have him in a heart beat and I hope it happens but i dont think it will - this is where we do need that quality plan B - hopefully it works out better than the other plan B's we have had - the likes of Nunes and Phililps who were clearly plan B or even C's to main targets.

Completely agree with you on MGW, I think he could develop into a great player as of Wharton but we need now players.

You could argue that a full strength team would be Rodri and Nico with a 10. So Wharton and MGW would have time to learn our way and O’Reilly would have time to develop. I think Gundo stays and the others all go but with Gundo he’ll basically swap roles with O’Reilly and have limited minutes but is there all the time if we need him and O’Reilly will get more game time. Then if we miss out on a player we still have the security of Gundo in the squad. If that makes sense.

With Wirtz we are probably the only team that would happily drop 150m€ on him because we can. So him going to Bayern would rely on him really rejecting us and them really going for him. I don’t think we’ve been linked to another player like him yet because he’s clearly the top target but we will have back up options. Tolm has always said the club have a list of three basically per position because they have back up options and will compare the players against each other, this might change with Viana. I imagine Haaland we didn’t do this but he was more of a sure thing, he loves the club. Wirtz because the Bayern threat, element of convincing, potential staying at Leverkusen for another year, wanting to stay in Germany etc. we would have alternatives. For me I’d love Baena to be one.

Like I said the 6 is so hard to play for us and it takes players time to adapt you could say the same for the 8 and 10 position. Bernie started on the wing and Kev played a lot there as well. They had time to learn the system again before running the middle. This problem is because we are so good at our best and Pep demands the very best.

We will also need homegrown players if certain ones leave. Jack is going, Walker is gone, I think Stones/Ake are staying for now, McAtee is probably gone and Carson will probably retire. Thankfully we have youth players coming through that are homegrown so we probably don’t need many but one signing will be I imagine.
