Crystal Palace (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

He was, but that type of foul is never given if the player stays on his feet and gets his shot off. Didn't look like there was much of a pull, but could have upset his balance as he prepared to shoot.
Doubt it would have been a red card as it wasn't dangerous even though there was no attempt to play the ball.
Doesn't have to be dangerous. You can't attempt to play the ball by tugging your opponent's arm.

The truth is that most of the time — the great majority of it — a really good team forces the other team to look bad. That would have been especially true looking at the run that Palace have just come off.
Interesting but I thought Palace were bad. I needed to know their defensive record to think maybe we just were very good!

Not at all. Their manager completely messed up second half and decided to try 3-5-2 and changed their tactics completely and it played into our hands.

That's part of the truth, but just look at how much zippier and accurate our midfield passing exchanges were by comparison with most other matches this season. It is is really striking. From the half-hour mark, we upped the pace of our passing considerably, with people constantly showing for the return pass. Nobody hiding.
We weren't bad right from the off, as it happens, but for incredibly naive defending. (Their second goal is a foul, in my view, by the way, and I would have disallowed it; on the other hand, I wouldn't in all honestly have given the Marmoush “penalty” — I asked myself how outraged I would have been if that had been given at the other end, and the anwer was “Plenty outraged!”)
We suffocated them. We didn't give them room to look good. But for James's two absolute gifts that he should have buried, and Kev's one when he steppped through the defence brilliantly and then blasted it over the bar, that should have been a really heavy defeat — a caning — for Palace.

I meant in reference to the red card suggested by the poster I replied to. I thought it was a pen or a pen and yellow unless it was dangerous.

Forgetting Marmoush and his gifts too.

We scored 5 goals, had 5 great chances and hit the post. It was like the good old days!

Oh I didn't know this was happening before the game to be honest. Even still if someone didn't like the look of a line-up they have the right to say whether they agree with it or not.

This is something that's been going on for years on bluemoon not just this season. If someone posts something slightly negative, all the happy clappers start getting personal or start being a keyboard warrior to posters.

It's like when other fans come on here and disagree with something they get called a WUM. It's pathetic it's a fucking forum. We are all entitled to our own opinions. People don't need to start getting personal or attacking others, cos they wouldn't do it face to face.
All make sense until one reads the posts of “slight” negative opinions. They are blunt rants and prejudice at best. those who tend to abuse the team and players are more used to personally attack other people with different opinions on the forum and play victim. It’s a common social phenomenon- People who don’t take care of their own language are the most sensitive ones to others’ language. If one have a look in any page in the player performance forum, this is clearly evidenced there. Like, Wum is an unacceptable word but “happy clappers” is all fine to use to some. There is a good chance both words are used by the same group of people.

The happy clappers comment is a reaction to all the people who get angry at fans for being angry at a shit performance.

Let's be honest... how was you feeling yesterday after the first 30 mins of football? I thought we was gonna get smashed we was lucky not to go 3-0 down and people had the right to be pissed off I really don't see why they get abuse for being annoyed. It's passion, it would be worrying if they didn't react like that.

It's one of those "anywhere else on the pitch" scenarios.
It's a definite foul and it definitely unbalanced him and resulted in him losing a little control and then stretching and pushing his shot rather than putting his foot through it.

Foul anywhere else on the pitch.
Not often a pen though, weirdly.

Maybe Salah could give him a few tips on how to turn that scenario into a penalty the next time they meet up on international duty. :)

In the first 30 minutes I worried about the match tread the most as I have no time to read forum. I saw good vibes in the team from minute one. I would be happy for that change even the game was lost. It would be even more difficult to express my opinion in the forum if we lost. For those who felt attacked, I’m afraid they might just harvested what they sow.

I’m particularly happy that Pep used Kova Gonzalez double pivot. I’m also happy that Pep didn’t start Doku Savinho and Bernie. I was worried about Lewis but I understand Pep’s persistence. Lewis is the example for younger academy players. There must be patience. Lewis has good football IQ to deserve patience. He just lacks experience.

It was a strange game that yesterday. You could see their goal coming a mile off and it still amazes me how we see so many simple goals scored against us. The ball into Eze was perfect - almost KdB like but you know if he played for us that would be hitting the stands!! The second was a joke and Ederson had no idea what to do. For all the adulation for his assist, his keeping is poor and not improving. I know it won't be popular, but their 3rd goal should've stood - I'm tired of seeing someones ballbag/knee/eyebrow rule goals out.

However, having said all that the second half was superb. KdB rolled the years back and that free kick was incredible - no keeper in the world saves that. He was pulling the strings and I do wonder if now he knows his future is elsewhere, he's determined to go out with a bang? Marmoush looks lively and I would like to see him next to Haaland as I think he has a real eye for goal.

Overall, a good result but really it showed - again - if we play slow and shit we concede goals. Up the tempo and we win.

Well he isnt ready now, thats for sure!! I predict Mcatee will be sold and then hit the ground running for his new club. And Savinho will still not be able to hit the proverbial barn door!!

Were in serious danger of making the same mistake with Mcatee as we did with Palmer if were not very careful…
Don’t think it’s for sure! There is absolutely no danger whatsoever of Mcaatee ending up a regular in a top 6 club. Savinho has got it.

In what world does a goal thats scored by an offside player, thats looked at by VAR count?

On the offside, of it was a toenail I agree as it gets a bit silly. But Eze was clearly offside and enough of him to mean it was rightly ruled out. I worried when I saw the starting 11 and then at 2-0 down I wanted to see what we were made of. Both the fans and players rose to the occasion. It was a must win in the hunt for CL football in my opinion and with De Bruyne showing signs of his old self and driving us forwards we came back and tore them to pieces.

Hopefully that can be the catalyst we need for the rest of the season. Everton away is tough with their current form too. Win there and its a big 3 pts. The Villa game will be tough, and what could be the cup final in a few weeks. They look tailor made to beat us with their energy on the counter so we will have to do a similar job to PSG and just box them in with possession.

Let's hope he's more professional than that - I'd hate to think that my favourite player could have played better all season if he'd just been more determined? Jeez.

That wouldn't do much for his legacy, would it?
