Worst player I’ve seen in the league yet people will claim he is good. Wouldn’t make the Southampton starting 11. a far from his oppositions all the time. Slow. Doesn’t offer anything on the offense neither on the defense. Wish I was him. Just doing something while doing nothing.

This. But be careful, there is a cult of people on here that have formed the opinion because he’s a local lad and academy product, and Pep selects him that he’s a young talent that will blossom into a fine player once he nails down a place in our midfield. They don’t see any of what you have described and will call you out for pointing out what is abundantly obvious to others.

Joking aside, the blind spot for him by some on here is as equally strong as the belief by others that he’s truly awful (which is where I firmly sit). Surely ability can’t be that polarising. One camp/opinion is wrong in my opinion. It will come out.

All anyone needs to do is to check young Rico’s trophy cabinet to know your post is absolutely incorrect & a load of shite
By your logic kalvin Phillips is a top player then? After all his trophy cabinet includes the treble
And Scott Carson should be on the radar of both Madrid and Barca..

Coming with such foolish logic and you have the audacity to claim my post was absolutely incorrect & a load of shite!
There's a huge difference between the number of games played by Rico, and the other 2 quoted here, no matter how good anyone thinks he is, he earned his by playing games.

I have just rewatched their opening goal on match of the day. Just look at his positioning….

He was level in the defensive line with the rest of the defence, while Eze was a mile off. If he'd have dropped in to mark him, he would have risked playing on the Palace attacker down the middle, if they'd gone beyond Dias. He held the line correctly.

However, then when play went wide none of the defence managed to get back in time, despite trying. It's clever play by Palace and it's not the first time teams have done this against us, so we need to defend it better. I think stopping the cross would be preferable.

You think Rico Lewis is worse than Hojlund, Antony, Casimeiro and Slabhead Maguire?

If some fans think Rico is not good enough, yet Pep picks him regularly, maybe these fans should be humble enough to accept that despite their opinions, they should accept that maybe they lack the tactical knowledge of a top manager in order to identify his talent.

Pep picks him because we have limited options in the RB area.

Any top 10 teams in the premier league, their RB starts ahead of him if they played for City.

Positionally as a defender he’s poor, never anticipates where the winger is, never stops the cross, too busy looking where rest of defence is rather than dealing with his man. Add that to all the other bits you said, just not good enough.
This is actually intelligent. It is what he is supposed to do. I am getting tired of folks who think football is an individual sport. Its not!!!

Rico was good against Palace. Those who don't like him, simply won't. He too like Mcatee is another who is more brains than physical tools.

Makes the right decision most of the time. Takes the right angle when receiving a pass. Opens up his body to create passing lane options and make himself hard to press. Something a 15 year veteran in Kyle Walker struggled with until his last game at City.

He might lack high end athleticism, which is more needed at full back than anywhere else. But he is a very good role player.

The fluidity of our play on the right side of the field had a lot to do with his presence there..

While i generally prefer Nunes because of his athleticism and attacking impetus, Rico is nothing to sneeze at.

When you don’t go to games and watch with your own eyes, forgive me for ignoring your post completely.

Here is Rico Lewis in highlight form. Find me a better decision maker in possession at RB. You'd struggle. The Cambiaso many are craving will kill for highlights like this.

I was at the game and thought he had a decent game against Palace.

Left exposed in the first halfby our non-press and the lack of cover from our midfielders (all 7 of them).

Won most of his challenges, didn't concede possession, no silly mistakes.

He is still developing - should be dipping in and out of the team but injuries mean he has played the majority of matches.

It feels like some people expect him to be at the level of prime Maldini/Roberto Carlos/Dani Alves.

I agree, I thought he had a decent game.

I don't know who to believe .

Match thread posters who think their Mum is a better player or

Pep, the best Coach and football thinker ever....

Fuck, can't make my mind up, those Match thread guys are something.
