UK supreme court ruling on legal definition of a woman

Hey image was shot to pieces already by trans campaigners wasnt it? They went to town on her I think. Certainly some people had it in for her, death threats etc.

that can be par for the course for some notable figures who express views on various subjects - ask Chris Packham

One thing I would comment on the supreme court decision is this...

These are the sexes and ages of the members of the supreme court:

Male, 68
Male, 71
Male, 73
Male, 70
Male, 63
Male, 67
Male, 67
Male, 68
Male, 70
Male, 73
Female, 65
Female, 61

You've basically got a bunch of OAP's (or near), mostly men, deciding on a subject like this. It feels to me that you'd need this decided by a more diverse line up of ages and sexes.
If it was all women what do you think they'd vote? Or are you just using this to expose some male misogyny?

Bear in mind their role is to interpret the law as written, you need the law itself written by a more diverse line up.

Are you a man?

This is just the beginning of a long process, this ruling wasn't monumental in its conclusion, but it will be monumental in its application, but only if the establishment capture, built on lies, is relentlessly dismantled and the work starts now....

NHS will be pursued if gender policies don't change, equalities watchdog says

And after that the Department of Education.

I am transgender. I first realised that something was ‘wrong’ when I was 6 or 7. But I hid it from everyone because I believed that even my close family would reject me if they found out.

I struggled with it my entire life. I would have given anything not to be this way. I hated and despised myself all my life.
I could not have an intimate relationship with anyone because I could never be myself with another person. I never had real friends because my life was a lie, I was not the person they thought I was.

Transitioning and living as a woman was my worst nightmare. It would be the end of life as I knew it. I was convinced I would lose my family and what little friendship I had with people.

Unfortunately, you can only fight it for so long before it becomes impossible to go on. I went ahead and made the change. Suicide was a serious option because the alternative was so terrifying. I did not think I would have the strength to tell everyone the truth about myself and start living as a woman. I found the courage to do it by telling myself that I could always kill myself if it became too terrible. There were many times in the first couple of years that I almost reached that point. The three people that carried me through were all women. I would not be here today without their love and support. None of them were family members although my family were generally supportive.

I would never do anything to make women uncomfortable or afraid. I believe that is true of the vast majority of transwomen.

The ruling today scares me. I had genital surgery nine years ago. I do not have male genitalia. I can be raped in the same way that a biological woman can be raped yet I may find myself having to share male facilities. I undertand the anxiety that having someone who was born male in a female space can cause. I am terrified of being the female in an all male space.

Trans people are not monsters. We did not arrive from space in the last few years, we just became more visible. Trans people have always been here and always will be no matter how many laws are passed against us. We have no choice. We are what we are.

I am not a sexual predator or rapist. I am just another human being like all of you. I want to live my life in peace. I deserve to do that just as much as each of you do.

Thanks for your story, made me have a think about my own views on the subject.

Most people obsessed about Trans people have probably never met one in real life, just get constant spoon fed from social media and right wing outlets.

I think the real point would be they will have interacted with Trans people and be totally unaware that they had done so

That was almost a full house, but you forgot about hate, no worries, you'll slip it in when you post this again, and you will over and over.

Tell me, have you ever met any of these gender critical women? You know the ones fighting for women's rights, basic stuff, like having their existence recognised, because after all this is what that ruling was about, you get that, right?

Why do you have to have met one to have an opinion of the rights/wrongs of the law?

Im sure some are lovely, im sure are cunty.

Im not sure of the point of your post though…

Women brought the case and, as far as I can see, the vast majority agree with the decision. Why do you think that a woman's right should be ignored?

i don't think a woman's right should be ignored but I can see that the ruling changes little or nothing in the long term.

Take the toilets issue. I agree women should be the one's in ladies loo's. However, as I said in the post you responded to, what about the many interactions that occur when no-one even knows? If women should use ladies loo's then women transitioning to men should be directed to the ladies loo as a biological female. I can imagine that someone trans who is female but is a visually compelling male rocking up in the ladies is hardly going to make women feel any safer. It will appear there is a man in the queue for the ladies.

If someone is a predatory man out to molest or harm women surely they could rock up in that same queue and claim access is theirs because they claim they are a woman. Unless someone is enforcing it with say a visual or physical check how do you stop that? As I say I can't see anything other than a pyrrhic victory.

she's in a position where she doesn't have to give a flying fuck about her image, more power to her elbow for standing up for women no matter what shit they throw at her

love the user name - took me back to Maine Road and Dad trying to find a 50p knowing that the alternative was missing hub caps, snapped aerials or a wrecked wing mirror on our return at full time
