I'm not arguing for or against MGW but I think we need to note that the midfield role is moving on from the 'magic no.10' player for good or ill. Midfields now tend to be dominated by players with stamina, energy and tenacity as well as skills. Think L'pool, Arse, Newcastle, Villa here and both Madrids, Barca, PSG, Inter in Europe. Currently the 'magic' players tend to play in the front 3 positions. No one will replace a KDB or a David Silva in midfield. Clubs need to buy or develop midfield players who can pass and press, compete for 90 mins, play every 3 days and stay fit. Maybe in a few years that will change again (I hope it does) but it's where top class football is now.
