41 years since Good Friday Boundary Park mayhem

I was only 11 so I wasn't involved in any of the shenanigans, but what I seen that day will stay with me forever. Open mouthed watching the ladders come out, then loads of ours get up em and cause mayhem in the top tier. Then tearing down the advertising hoardings. It was my first away match(apart from Wembley) and it sure wasn't gonna be my last! Entertaining 2-2 game as well I believe, but I can't remember none of that really, just the mayhem that insued off the pitch. :)

While I accept your premise, and obviously distance has lent enchantment to many of these memories, there's no denying that they were exiting times.

I barely missed a game, home or away in the 80s and on the vast majority of occasions trouble was usually easy to avoid if you didn't want to get involved. There were trips to Leeds, Chelsea, United etc where trouble spilled into the 'civilian community', but it was games at Bloomfield Road, The Baseball Ground, Burnden Park, Oakwell and the like, where there was always an air of edginess as the yokels tried to make a name for themselves.

In short, it was wrong, but as in many other aspects of life, wrong can often be great fun.

I was considered one of the finest proponents of standing at the back, bouncing up and down and shouting. Such positioning was not always straightforward, and it took extraordinary levels of cowardice to maintain a safe distance from any actual fighting.

I only came unstuck once, Ewood Park after the match, on the hill heading down to the main road, blues everywhere and I had safely placed myself 7/8ths of the way back in the initial charge.

Imagine my concern when the mob turned round to get the Blackburn fans at the top of the hill...I pretended to drop something and stopped to 'pick it up' as the blues swarmed past.

The ladder was chained to an old lead drain pipe outside the away end.
That was booted in and the liberated ladder was passed under the turnstile by us blues.

I had this confirmed yesterday by an ex Langley lad now living in (or just outside) Los Angeles. He has always maintained it was the Langley / Middleton contingent that came in with the ladder

Because I don't have the need to reply to every single post. I enjoy reading and don't need to post unless motivated to. I guess the complete opposite of someone who posts continuously, they remind me of gobshites you find in pubs, who won't shut the fuck up.

If you only wanted to read, I'm pretty sure you can do that without signing up. Unless the software has changed, you don't need to be a member if you only want to read posts. It just seems odd that you made the effort to sign up, then not take advantage of that to put your views across more often. We welcome input on here; the more, the merrier. Plus, it's disappointing when people sign up, then (for whatever reason) can't be bothered to join in with the debates.

Yes i remember this game to in that open end
Was sunny has fuck before the game
Absolutely lashed it down think it was in August or September .
Couldnt concentrate on the game .
City fans soaked to fuck walking like penguins after the game out of the ground
Got to my car with my pals & stripped off to our undies driving back home lol!!
