The main thing that looks to have been holding him back during his underwhelming time with us is a lack of self belief. Always choosing the safe pass, getting bullied when challenged for possession and flouncing when things don’t go his way are all manifestations of a guy struggling for confidence.

He has been steadily improving since his personal nadir in the home derby catastrophe and looks more in tune with the rhythm of the team and the positions he needs to take up to keep that rhythm going.

Now you sense that such a moment of personal triumph at a very important moment and a huge outpouring of emotion to the fans can lend him the confidence to smash through what’s been holding him back and release the real Nunes.

Almost as good as his goal tonight was him haring back after one of their lads who was breaking forward and showing real courage and physicality to put the ball safely into touch.

Long may his good form continue.

Been waiting for this moment for 2 seasons and so happy for the lad . Not as bad as some in here have said but also not a world class player either but he will do a job for us aswell .

Apart from the goal - 2 or 3 exceptional saving tackles. If a player of his talent and quality can continue to compromise and play RB then no need for a replacement. Could become far better than anyone we can buy.

Earned his place in the squad for next season over the last few weeks. Eight assists and four goals is a reasonable return for a player who has been in and out of the side and played multiple positions. As previously mentioned really needs to cut out the brain farts (united here, pass across his own goal at Bournemouth) but hopefully last night's goal gives him the confidence to be more composed.

A replacement is very much needed.

He has filled in well, can't knock the lad for his efforts playing out of position. Gives the ball away too much though.

Took that goal well, not as easy as it looks.

While he may have over played with the ball, I find it odd how many fully blame him for the pen.

He lost it high up in Villa's end, they still had alot of work to do, and we still had some players as well for that incident to occur.

It wasnt as big a mistake as ppl make it seem to be, ive seen far worse mistakes from others this season, including Nunes himself.

Couldn't disagree more.
Add more quality and a playmaker in midfield and he'd link up brilliantly.
He's on that elite football brain wavelength.
Couldn't be more knee jerk off the back of a couple of ok performances. If his football brain was so elite he wouldn't give the ball away as much as he does, that isn't a being out of position issue. That is a lack of brain/ability issue.

The pen is pure and simple Ruben’s fault. He was too slow and too clumsy yet again. We should be fast tracking Khus into his position and testing the market to see what kind of fee Ruben would bring.

Maya Jama making his legs weak

I'd be in a wheelchair if I was him

Delighted he got the winner but he was at fault, again, for an opposition goal.

Not exactly - he was at fault before an opposition goal. Yeah he made a poor pass, but Dias' made a mistake by not getting a challenge in on Rashford out wide and letting him run into the box. Then there was the challenge/decision for the penalty.
