The Squad planning thread

Outs:

Ederson, Ortega, Stones, De Bruyne

Wouldn’t be loaning Rico. Agree on the keepers. Keep McAtee. Kev obviously leaving can only see one of the older midfielders and one of the more injury prone defenders leaving. I’d probably keep Ake. And sell Stones since we have Khusanov as the right footed CB. I honestly couldn’t put my finger on whether it’s Kovacic/Bernardo/Gundo who goes. I know Gundo has signed a new deal but it was by auto extension and I’m sure he could be let go if that was the direction the club wants to go in

For me:

Exits : Ederson, Ortega, Stones, Grealish, De Bruyne, Bernardo (maybe), Kovacic (maybe)

Ins: Costa, Cambiaso, Gibbs-White, Wirtz/Simons, another winger
Rico Lewis simply isn't good enough. Needs to go out on loan and toughen up.

Don’t agree. He just can’t play in a midfield with Kovacic, Gundogan, Bernardo etc. He’s a very good midfielder player just has flaws with his physicality.

Rico Lewis can play in midfield.

Those saying he lacks physicality, look at Bernie, look at Vitinha and Neves at PSG.

You dont have to be tall or quick to play there, you just need to have control of the ball, and thats Lewis' best ability with his low centre of gravity.

Lewis also has that fight in him, he just needs to gain experience there and mature in his play because he played RB so much, still only 20.

Not if back up keeper is home grown, would be him and kerkez
City had 17 overseas players this season registered for the CL which excluded Reiss and Echeverri, so you cannot include Reiss as outgoing for CL overseas spots.

As far as I can see Kerkez has only been at Bournemoputh for two years and is already 21 so I don't see how he is association trained?

My FIFA 26 lineup

Costa
Frimpong khus Dias gvardiol kerkez
Rodri. Camavinga
Foden. Haaland. Wirtz

Kdb -> Wirtz
Bernardo -> camavinga
Nunes -> kerkez
Ederson -> Costa (I have no opinion on suggested gks, but this seems most likely currently)
Mcatee -> Frimpong
Ake -> Doyle

Backups -
Stones, akanji, Reis, Doyle, Lewis
Nico G, O'Reilly, gundogan
Marmoush, Bobb, savinho, doku

Seems a fair few in the squad planning thread, don’t really understand how to plan a squad :)

Wow for some reason I thought kerkez came through ranks at Bournmouth my bad

If Guardiola continues down the path of expansive football and we play more openly, then Lewis’ lack of pace and ability to shuttle between the boxes will see his midfield opportunities curtailed. He would then be predominantly used in those games where the opposition sits in and we need players who can operate in the tighter spaces.

Among the many things that continue to baffle me is why we've ended up with no full backs at all. Every other PL club has got at least three and many of them pretty good. Even mid table clubs like Fulham, Brighton, Bournemouth, Palace, Wolves etc have players on both sides who could have done a more than decent job for us (hate to say it but rags included with Dalot & Mazrouri).

Because pep wanted to be different as always

Looks like we're keen to keep McAtee and Nunes based on who Pep has picked lately.

Can't see us losing more than 6 players, as teams just cant survive bigger turnover. Expect we'll make Ederson a big, big offer to stay.

Kev, Stones, Ortega and Grealish look destined to go so it'll be interesting to see who else joins them (not including Walker and Phillips).

I am 100% sure that McAtee will leave too. Nunes could be the RB backup indeed.

Mgw + Wirtz would cover Kev and McAtee while Kovacic + Bernardo ( maybe even Gundo) would be covered by O’Reilly, Reijnders and potentially Wharton. Costa for ederson would make it 6.
