The Labour Government

Free breakfast clubs rolling out in every primary school.
3.5 million workers got a pay rise with the minimum wage increase this month, pensions rising thanks to Labour’s commitment to the triple lock.

Meanwhile it’s all so awful so let’s rush to the polls to vote for a bunch of racist fuckwits. Embarrassing nation.
If that’s your pitch for voting Labour then it’s hardly a surprise if people look elsewhere.

I didn’t vote Labour but how was that going back on anything? They said they wouldn’t raise personal taxes, it was obvious they were going to do it on businesses. VAT on private schools is a tax on the rich.

Not the rich I’m looking for . They promised the earth and we got fuck all but cuts , taxes and higher bills

Every school?

I stopped after that tbh

When their first big decision was winter fuel it’s been downhill from there, why have there been no windfall taxes? I’ve no doubt other things they’ve been doing well but those have not been highlighted because of those other stupid decisions, whether people like it or not the boats are a big issue in everyone’s eyes, you aren’t racist to speak up against it it’s a fact people have had enough of them, especially those towns that seem to get more than their fair share of them.
I hate Donald Trump but look at the border there is literally no one there now because they know they’ve no chance, now how he’s deporting them is a completely different issue, in the uk we are putting them up in hotels or next up getting them into more houses whilst paying local landlords a lot of money who won’t give a fuck about your neighbour hood is coming next. It’s an issue around the world now and it’s pissing people off so they will go with a party that promises the earth such as MAGA or Reform although they have no idea how to deliver.

You've obviously never knocked a door in your life if you think "boats are an issue in everyone's eyes"!

Boats a big issue in everyone's eyes? You don't speak for many and you certainly don't speak for me.

Denial and not listening.... it's Labours biggest problem.

The reason Reform are popular is precisely because of what Labour have actually done in the first ten moths of their stewardship.

They need to listen to what concerns people, whilst accepting it is one issue I can assure you it is not only about immigration.

Whilst Starmer is choosing to ignore the wishes of the public, the public that put him into power. I think there will be quite a few Labour MP's who's thinking will be more in line with the public than their leader. Watch this space.

I'll not vote for Labour again ...never voted Tory. .
(Certainly wouldn't vote Reform !)

This isn't the Labour I once knew and a huge mistake was made by shitting on the likes of me. They also said loads of things before the election then went back on a lot of what I heard. Not taxing the rich and then slamming increases in NI on business for example.
The political system is broken in this country. The structure is doomed to failure. Everything is too slow. The constant bickering between left and right is futile. The country needs radical change and needs to modernise urgently. We can’t go forward with absurdities like the House of Lords,

Boats not an issue?

Of course they are, look at what’s happening politically ffs.

Keep telling yourselves it’s not an issue.
It's an issue in your eyes. It's not an issue for many. The idea that "stopping the boats" will change people's lives for the better is laughable to the point of being puerile.

It’s a national issue as can be seen by the current government policy and the results we are seeing from local elections.

Bury your head in the sand as much as you want, it won’t change anything.

We’ve had quite a bit of radical change and political instability in the last decade. Brexit tore up our industrial and foreign policy. We’ve had a pandemic and a Prime Minister losing a battle with a lettuce.

Personally, I’m all for a bit of peace and quiet and not a lot happening for a change :)

It's an issue in the way that it fans the flames for the brain dead masses. Of course, it'll not change anyone's life but, that's looking too far in the future for the type who flock behind shite sound bites.

I live in an area with very little immigrants or 'boat people' etc but the amount of people who on the face of it seem reasonably intelligent in regular life have Reform posters in their windows is frightening.

There are levels of 'political snobbery' you see a lot of on this forum IMO.

It manifests on a number of threads by the 'know it all(s)' demeaning and ridiculing the views of others - there tends to be a pile-on by the familiar posters to shut down any views that are alternative to their own. Threads sometimes become just echo chambers as those that do not conform have better things to do.

Here you are rubbishing another poster's view and at the same time stating - "It's not an issue for many"- how are you qualified to state that so unequivocally? What is many in your eyes? - or are you just making things up off the cuff.

Some people might think that for such a statement to be made without any backing up of facts and in the face of so mush reporting of it being an high profile issue could be viewed as being laughable to the point of being puerile.

If that’s the case, then why are Labour placing such emphasis on ‘smashing the gangs’ and heralding the number of deportations since coming into office, to the point that they’ve published exaggerated and misleading data?

The boats issue is just one example of the government’s complete lack of political instinct and guile. They’ve been chasing their tail since day one, starting with their inability to sense the public’s anger around the freebies issue, which in hindsight set the tone for everything that’s followed. Currently they’re trying to out-Reform Refotm on the boats issue, but it’s just another example of how reactionary they’ve been.

If Starmer can’t get ahead of the situation and set out an agenda that actually resonates with voters then he’ll be gone inside 18 months.
