Pep is picking him because he’s decided to rely on the old guard to get us over the line in the chase for top 5, which has worked by the looks of it.It’s a strange one. Either the club doesn’t want to extend under any circumstance or they would only extend under a condition that Kev and his camp won’t accept. In the meantime the coach is picking him to start almost every game, which seems to suggest he thinks he could play on .
Except it isn't over those 3 it's over whover his replacement would be, marbe Wirtz or whoever.
I don’t think it’s strange at all. It’s a strange one. Either the club doesn’t want to extend under any circumstance or they would only extend under a condition that Kev and his camp won’t accept. I think it's that his 375k per week wages could be spent on a top drawer replacement who is younger, fitter, faster and can play every 3 or 4 days. If Kev would accept a pay as he plays deal though I'd be made up with him staying.I get the injury side but when you say taking up a place, it’s not like he’s a nobody. He’s our best player when he plays, still. I’d rather have Kev in the squad over Gundo, Kovacic or Bernardo.
Do we? speak for yourself, If we are after Gibbs White it will be for Grealish nothing to do with KDB.We all know it will be bloody Gibbs-White and not Wirtz ha.

The main question is exactly this: whether the club has ruled out the extension under any conditions or KDB just do not want to take a pay cut. In the first case its a mistake by City, because reports stated KDB would be able to accept he would be more of an impact player. And we would love to have KDB around, he still is a top quality player. It’s a strange one. By the way Madrid have been using Modric as an impact player for a few years very successfully. Would have thought City could have done likewise. The main question is exactly this: whether the club has ruled out the extension under any conditions or KDB just do not want to take a pay cut. He is nothing like Modric.By the way Madrid have been using Modric as an impact player for a few years very successfully. Would have thought City could have done likewise.
I get the feeling this is Pep's decision and just like his ruthless disposal of Kun it will probably work out as it normally does for him.
While we can see that Kevin is not the player he was it remains to be seen if Pep still has his mojo. This recent rather dull resurgence, relying on dad's army midfielders, whilst welcome doesn't seem conclusive one way or the other.
Yeah Modric is good example. KDB on the last 20 min when we chase the game and need creativity? Would be perfect. You may be rights its a Pep call actually. But if so, I have to trust Pep, he knows how the dressing room and players of this calibre work better than anybody. Otherwise I think its a mistake. If KDB could accept lower wages and playing less we would benefit from such a player at the bench.By the way Madrid have been using Modric as an impact player for a few years very successfully. Perfect in the eyes of who, and at what price on the payroll?Yeah Modric is good example. KDB on the last 20 min when we chase the game and need creativity? Would be perfect.
At £400,000 a week it's hell of a luxury.I don't understand what we are doing with KDB. I mean I get it, sort of. But I don't.
He should stay in the squad in some capacity KDB coming off the bench even is a right luxury as long as he's fit (which he rarely is I suppose). Tough one, but not chuffed. Someone fix it! One more season!
you do not read the posts you reply to apparently. Payroll is crucial, but we do not know, whether its KDB do not want the paycut or club sending him off regardless. I wrote that its a mistake IF KDB do not want to take paycut and accept less influential role upon the team. I wrote that if its Pep feeling to say goodbye to KDB then fair enough, because Peps know best whats best for the team from other angles like the dressing room perspective too.Perfect in the eyes of who, and at what price on the payroll?
Kevin clearly thinks he can still do it at the highest level and that is admirable, if questionable on a regular (I'm talking three games a week) basis. He's clearly a proud man. Would he take a significant pay cut with the deal being "we'll play you for 20mins here and there if we're chasing a game, otherwise you're on the bench?"
It's a ridiculously tough decision to make and I don't envy those involved. There's no obvious, right answer. But we can't let sentiment drive our decision making. As a club we've more often than not got it right when it comes to letting players move on, and to me it feels like the right time with Kev, even though there will be all sorts of emotions when we're clapping him off the pitch for the last time.
I want to see him sign off on a high, that being CL qualification and hopefully an FA Cup. I fear another year or two and we'll witness a last year or two like we did with Yaya and Fernandinho, where it was obvious the mind was willing but the legs weren't.
