General Videogame Thread

I wasn't sure where to put this, but...

Looks unbelievable but gave up gaming 2 years ago when for me all games I likes were the same! Am tempted here to go back!!

If they let people pre purchase on consoles now net they'll be ridiculous numbers coming out for it

GTA 6 looks fucking class. Another 12 months to polish it as well.

On my second playthrough of Expedition 33. Fucking unreal.
Is it like final fantasy. Can’t get into this type of game at all. Love RPG. The reviews from yourself tho is leaving me tempted to get into this.

Ridiculous that it has taken this long to make another gta. Too busy rinsing gta 5.

Brought out my old PS2 recently, played Warriors for the first time and picked up Vice City from CeX for £3 so getting on that next. Getting me in a Rockstar mood with Manhunt after VC too.

Yes and no. I'm not a fan at all of traditional turn based games, find them quite boring. This, is turn based with quick time events thrown in, and you have to dodge, parry and counter in real time. It's basically everything I wanted turn based games to be. So it's only really you're attacks that are turn based but there's that much shit going on you want it exactly like that.

Manhunt was fun with a Mic. You could just whistle or swear at them to get their attention while waiting to pounce from the shadows.

I've read about this (never played Manhunt) - how does a mic work on PS2? There's nowhere to plug one into the controller..?

If I remember, mine connected via the USB slot in the front.
It was great, Brian Cox (a little Manhunter easter egg by Rockstar) shouting in you ear rather than through the tv stuff like "cmo'n I wana see more GORE!" if you hid for too long.

I got the mic headset with a game called SOCOM navy seals.

Tried playing Expedition 33 for about 4 hours and it's just not clicking for me which is weird as I normally like turn based RPG's and the premise is really interesting but I think is just the characters are all so melodramatic.

Start a new run on Elden Ring as Night reign comes out soon and that looks really good

I love Elden Ring but fucking hell it can be difficult in places. It's the only game I've simultaneously loved and come close to abandoning because it's such a grind in places.

If you're into your Soulsborne games, I'd check out the upcoming Duskbloods; visually stunning and it's Miyazaki, so it's already a winner.

On the balatro train thanks to ps+.

To be perfectly honest, I think it's quite flawed, the pacing isn't great in the game and you never really feel in a good spot.

you're either struggling, desperately searching for the right joker or you've got a broken build and breeze it, the game would feel better if there was more blinds per ante i feel with smaller jumps and they balanced the economy a bit better.

it doesn't come close to a master piece like slay the spire but having said that, I am completely hooked. I want to start a new run immediately after my last one ends.

balatro is a great game but like you said it's very RNG heavy trying to find the right jokers for your build.

Don't get me started on Slay The Spire. Over 1200 hours in and I still love it. It's possibly my favourite game ever and the sequel comes out later this year

I did my time with slay the spire too, it's near perfect. Ended up getting the platinum trophy on Playstation on it. The main difference between slay the spire and balatro is that with slay the spire it always felt fair. If you failed, it was generally because of your poor choices whereas balatro it's just pot luck and most times you fail there wasn't anything you could have done about it.

If you want something to scratch the slay the spire itch whilst you wait for the sequel, I recommend a game called rogue lords. I played it last year and thought it was superb, the closest thing I've played to StS.

Downloaded this Balatro just to see what the fuss is all about. I dont get it at all. Not a poker player so dont understand it at all. Dont even get the purpose of what Im supposed to achieve.

You don't need to know poker, just a very basic understanding of how poker hands are formed is all the poker you need to know, the rest of the game is in the jokers and finding synergies.

The general aim is to attain enough points each round to move onto the next blind and then the next ante after the boss blind, with point requirements ramping up substantially as you progress through each ante.

You win after the boss at ante 8 and then there's endless mode if you want to keep going to see how far you can get until you fail.

I'm still relatively new to it myself but my initial aims wasn't neccesarily to win but to simply discover and unlock as much as possible and get a feel for the game. i ended up winning after only a few goes as I understand deck builders but it's a game that you're supposed to fail more often than not to begin with.

First two aims for any run for me is to find a joker that's going to get you through the first few ante's whilst you search for one that's going to structure your run and then just as importantly, find a way of consistently getting money. You need money for the shops to buy the cards to get you through, without a good economy, you'll hit a brick wall very very quickly. More runs end because you don't have the money for what you need.

There's loads of cards that gets you money for doing different things, experiment with them, they're all viable. Your aim should be to meet each winning points condition with as minimal hands played as possible as every hand spare at the end of every round earns you extra money, you also get interest of $1 dollar for every $5 you have banked for a maximum of $5 each round (this can be extended and altered later through certain cards) so to ensure you're getting maximum coin each round you want to be having at least $25 as quickly as possible. the balance in the early rounds is in spending as little as possible whilst still having enough to get you the points to progress.
