New CL Format Thoughts

That makes sense but the extra round is worth a lot to UEFA. Also, there were a couple of UEFA's favourites looking like missing out on top 16 after 6 games.
Part of me thinks that this was always UEFA's intention to cover the backs of the "traditional" clubs
However it wouldn't surprise me if the CL gets even bigger and then they introduce some form of promotion and relegation between the CL and EL

A bit like a Super League but without admitting it

Yep premier teams dropping into the Europa have a better chance of getting champs league than getting it in the league it looks a lot easier now
Yeah the rags (or Spurs) would have to win the CL next season or finish in the PL Top 4/5.

Otherwise they won't be in the CL for 26/27

Meanwhile whichever English club finishes up in next season's EL will automatically be favourites

Said to a rag last weekend it's a joke.
Teams are busting a gut to finish top 5 (this year at least) whilst they're fielding weakened teams so they can concentrate on winning Europa league and therefore getting a CL spot.

Talk about the integrity of the PL?????

It's Thursday night.
It's 15th Vs 16th.
And it's live.....

Have to say, despite our crappy showings I think the new format injects a bit of excitement. I don't like the extra games though, there's already too much football and I do feel that a busier domestic, European and international calendar, has overall resulted in poorer games and more injuries, less star players to actually play in the competitions.

That said, the Inter Vs Barca games were brilliant, but there not been too many of them in the new format at all.

I like the new format.

I’m surprised the team that finished top of the CL group stage didn’t get a trophy.

They should also give the team that finishes top of the Europa League group stage a place in the CL Play Off round.

Weird how we all see things differently. I've been saying since September that Inter are one of the best sides in Europe and a dark horse to win the whole thing. I hope a few of the lads I've been saying it to remember.
Me too, was lucky to be at the Etihad to see them. Although no-one expected what happened this season with City, I thought it was a really interesting game. Their attitude wasn't like the traditional Italian one of 'all defence and hope for one chance' then when they hardly conceded in the group matches I warned my lad that they would be difficult to beat at least. I was threatening to put a bet on, perhaps I should have! Without walking the Italian league or winning the Champions league they have been in and around for a few seasons, and teams sometimes seem to build and build as they seem to be doing.

There is a kind of promotion because if you win the EL you go into the Chimps League no matter where you finish in your country's league.

Losing to Milan in the Copa and falling behind Napoli in the scudetto will have focused their minds on this tie.

I thought they might be like the Napoli side of a few years ago who looked like they could win it because of their outrageous attacking football but because of their high risk football would go out to someone well organised (for Napoli it was Chelsea).

I still think they lose to PSG or Arsenal but if they play PSG it could be a brilliant game.

Yeah, but I suspect that the conference (or whatever it's called) will soon merge with the EL and ultimately there won't even be a Final.

Just a League Format with maybe a dozen games and then the Top Four replacing the worst CL performers with some kind of convoluted merit system determining which CL teams deserve to be relegated.

This way UEFA get their Super League without actually calling it a Super League

This new bullshit ‘league’ format with a load of pointless extra games they can fleece people for is the super league in all but name.

Big sack of shite.
