Looks like we need an English international to fill the quota. Kyle gone and prob Stones out too. Kalvin was not up to it.
We should have got in Rice’s ear. Missed a trick with that one.
Can play CB, holding mid and an 8
We have needed all those at some point this season

Would rather take a risk on Wharton to fill that position. We have Phil, Nico x 2 and Oscar who can all play the attacking midfield position. Add Wirtz to them and we have strength in depth.

I've said this a million times. There is no English quota.

There is a cap on foreign players at 17. Beyond that you can have extra if they are home grown but you don't have to. So if a player is not good enough we don't have to fill the spots.

Not saying this lad isn't good enough. I'm saying we would only buy him if Pep and Co think he is.

They thought that about Philips!

If we bought him at a ridiculous price instead of going after Wharton I’d be devastated.
Totally agree. Wharton is far better at passing through the lines.

MGW isn’t creative enough to be a 8/10 hybrid for us, in my view anyway.

I reckon Nico Gonzalez could do most of what MGW does anyway.

Yeah but we’re in a race to become average didn’t anyone tell you :) Can see another grim transfer window is upon us :(

I’m struggling to understand this argument. He’s not Camavinga. You guys are acting like he’s Baleba off the ball. To stop a transition you have to stop the person running with speed. He doesn’t have long legs. His interceptions AND tackles are lower than Bernardo in 2025. And we have the ball all the time. I really don’t understand what you guys keep talking about. He runs a lot ? That not all we need. Rodri needs a duel winner, who covers a lot of ground and breaks up play. Rodri with his passing would unleash A Cherki who would feed hungry Marmoush x Haaland x Foden. 2 midfielders shielding the centre backs while the FBs bomb up down and wide pushing back the opposition wingers. Thats a viable system. Idk what MGW does that any kid from the academy can’t do.

Fernando was known as the octopus and that didn't exactly work out. IMO we'll be getting the ball to Haaland earlier with a narrow front 3, it'll break down more and so we won't have the ball as much I think the fullbacks will be told to stay wide but not that high so that they are always a passing option and can guard against the counter. And I then think MGW will be one of the 8s shuttling up and down. I think the main movement will be from the two number 8s interchanging with Foden and Marmoush off Haaland who will stay central. This is based mainly from the Chelsea home game.

When moves break down a full back and Rodri won't be that far from MGW so with his energy I think he will be able to make interceptions. IMO then MGW will bring energy, drive, directness, leadership, tenacity and as has been mentioned he's always looking for the forward pass. I think we'll end up paying more than we'd like for him but he gets in and brings balance to the first eleven so it won't ultimately matter.

when I Watch Wharton he seems similar to Jacob Wright. I feel if wright was given prem game time he would reach Wharton level.
Unfortunately, where we are at we can’t afford to nurture them.
I can see why we are interested in MGW though. I think he would be a solid James Milner type signing

Amen. Wright looked like he could be a player, but we’ll never know if he could grow inside a world class team now!

Yeah every signing is a gamble. Plenty of posters on here got excited when we did that deal.
I didn't.
I got excited when Phillips was loaned out.
One of the worst transfers at City ever.
What our scouting department saw in him I still don't know to this day.
As for MGW, it's another gamble as far as I'm concerned.

In truth I'm not sure what we are looking for when considering a player like MGW. His stats are at best average. He's only scored 16 career goals, 3 of which were penalties, a total of 26 assists, KDB got 20 in one season at his peak. Whilst accepting KDB is a generational talent the clubs MGW has played for , Swansea ,Sheffield United, Wolves and now Forest indicate he's never been that highly rated

Think I said when Forest paid £40m for him that it had to be for money laundering purposes.

Similar to Wolves paying £35m for Fábio Silva.
