North Stand Construction Discussion

We’ll get some good pictures of the roof being taken apart from inside the stadium during the Summer on Linkedin. Loads of people will be doing the stadium tour, and there will be numerous conferences and events taking place at the Etihad. I’ll keep my eye out for any pictures.

Sorry don’t get that , they did the other side without any tension rods ! ??
That’s what the experts said If you read the article in construction news posted by JRB they explain about the difficulty in transferring the cable net loads to the new structure
Its probably something to do with that maybe letting the loads from the new roof settle remember the building are concrete construction whereas the stand is steel fabrication

Dispite what Sisk said
I wasn't there. But no not really, it actually goes very much in hand with what you said Sisk said.

In the sense they need the maneuvering space to install the tension rods and can't build the link before that.

My impression from what they said was, it was a structural thing no mention of manoeuvring, it was during the section when they talked about the cablenet and the new roof, bringing in the expert who was listening to the cables
Maybe one of the others who attended could clarify

Ah, I didn't take that from what you previously said, but could well be lost in the summising, thanks for clarifying. As I said I wasn't there.

I believed you saying they wouldn't install it till the roof beams are tensioned fwiw. That in itself didn't give any reasoning for it (but you would have got more of a feel and context, granted), so I read into that they need the space to install the tension rods. Mostly because that makes sense to me and I can't think of a single structural reason, given the way the tower is built.

Dispite what Sisk said
Just as an aside (not related to this point which I already clarified what I meant), not everything Sisk say has to be true.

They will for example struggle to convince many who watched it, that the cap lift was a trial, like they said. It was great of them to be so transparent and open on the day, but ultimately they will also say things that are either more palatable or simpler for the public to take in. That happens a lot.

Again, in general, not on this specific point.

If Carlsberg did construction weather, they would have done the last 3 weeks in Manchester. Sisk couldn’t have wished for better weather to crack on with the build.

I must admit it makes me a tad nervous that we’re relying on an elderly Portuguese with a tuning fork to confirm if the entire stadium roof is going to collapse……but I guess they know what they’re doing!

I don’t know why the Bournemouth match couldn’t have been scheduled earlier. I know Uefa insist no PL fixtures during Champions League weeks but surely they could have played it on Tuesday 13th. Not ideal with the Final on Saturday but it would have given Sisk an extra week.

Because the final is more important than a stand that won’t be finished until 2026.

Sisk will be fine with the timescales and there will be no issues.

Sisk we're actually pushing for the week before the timescales are extremely tight. Hence why they'll be working double and triple shifts.

As a City fan though I'm glad they went with the 20th.

News feed on my blower came up with this last night

They are using the player's tunnel to transport sections of the roof? I take it they have never been to the ground and missed the large access tunnel that fire engines can get through in the NW corner.

Took me a couple of minutes to realise the picture is the south stand too.

If they don’t get the old roof off and pitch ready before the start of next season, for whatever reason, it is arguably more important than winning the FA Cup, financially at least
