If Southampton had no threat surely Nunes would have been the better choice especially for making the overlap and giving them something to think about.
He would at least put a good cross in because no one else besides de Bruyne and Foden are interested in taking that chance.

Exactly. Nothing made any sense today. When Nico came on i thought Akanji would go right back. So when they were putting 2 and 3 on Doku he’d have O’Riley bombing past for an easy pass outside him.

Yep instead we played Infront of them all game praying kev could do something special.

Comfortably our best right back.

If you said that at the start of the season you'd want locking up, that's how far our fall has been.

Considering the amount of shite crosses we put in and how deep they were surely playing one of your best crossers would be the logical thing to do, even as a sub...

Badly missed him today. The width he provides and an actual ability to overlap and/or put a cross in is invaluable instead of standing in a very specific position and moving as little as possible from it. Should have come on at halftime.

He won't score 3 goals though will he? but he most certainly will make at least 1 mistake. He's been no worse and arguably better that Lewis in that position but in truth neither are the answer there. Oh and he needs a new cobbler, the amount of times he's slipped lately.
It's not whether he makes a mistake per se (no player is error free). It is how many critical errors he makes that put us in danger of conceding a goal. The scum equalizer and (IIRC) the Bournemouth Cup goal were examples of this. But it is not happening once/game or anywhere close. Meanwhile, he has 9 assists this season in addition to a superb and pivotal goal vs Villa

I cannot for the life of me see why Pep plays Lewis over Nunes.
I think it's largely because Lewis is more consistent with his passing, doesn't black out and forget where he is twice in every half and can find some half pockets of space. Nunes can be facing the centre circle and somehow kick it out for a throw in behind him.

TBF Nunes is also much better at progressing the ball and is physically a bit tougher when he's paying attention. Lewis does like scoring against Palace though
