Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

of course City fans have high expectations, we have witnessed the greatest club side this country has ever produced, winning the one and only purist treble 24 months ago, we have Pep the most sought after manager on the planet, the worlds best owners, and we are charged accordingly, the notion we should not be frustrated or expect more is stupid. The one thing i want more than anything from this season is our talisman back fit and good to go, the loss of Rodri against Arsenal effectively derailed our season and apart from a few blips of recovery we are still miles off what we were.
Rodri will not solve all our ills, unfortunately.
The biggest weapon we wielded before his injury lay-off was a fear factor. Most teams were beat before they kicked off
That isn't there now.
We lost a lot more than shielding the midfield when Rodders took ill.
If he brings that cloak of invincibility back to us he will, in my opinion, be worthy of another balloon door award :)

I agree to some extent, but only if you can see the shoots of recovery and a plan in place, all i have seen for large parts of this season is sentiment get in the way of the truth, and it happened again yesterday
I'll write off this season, but will expect to see progress next. From players and manager.

I guarantee Wirtz wont come without CL for starters...

Who do you define a top quality - MGW?

As Ive said, if Wirtz doesn't want to come (whether we have or have made the champions league) he's not the only player in the world. And rather than throw our hands up and give in, we'll look to get in the next best option.

Plenty of great players have been bought by sides that aren't in the champions league, Kompany and Zabaleta a couple of examples.

When are PGMOL going to come out and say sorry for the mistake?
Their flagship system of VAR, which was brought into football for clear and obvious errors that can cost teams and managers their jobs, They sold it to clubs on the match referee missed a major incident and can correct it

Between winning the 4th league title and losing 9 games in 12 is a period of 7 months (including the off season).

Looks to me like our drop off was of a heavy magnitude over an amazingly short period of time. Starting at the fa Cup final against the rags.
You can be Billy big blue all you want, but delusion will only get you so far.
Our drop off is stark and swift.
If you are selective, to back a panicked take.

But I have been there done that and showed previously which clubs had worse season than ours after winning the title. We had a terrible condensed run, and still managed better than them.

Besides, it is immaterial because nobody has ever done 4 in a row, never mind on the back of a treble, so the accumulated exhaustion is nowhere near comparable.

And it is a stupid point anyway. Because even st our worst in years, we are still up there reaching finals and among the top of the table. Some clubs would cut their bollocks off for seasons like that. Big clubs, too.

Looks like your expectations are not in line with the owner's, player's, or the manager's
You comfort yourself in Mediocrity. I'll let the owners know, in my own small way, that the results are unacceptable.
Cheers.

Not quite. Sane's issue was his work rate. He was lazy and didn't track back. That was his downfall.

There was no problem with Alvarez work rate.

As i remember it anyhow.
I was referring to the fact that he was too maverick for Pep's taste.

Yes it is not the poor season itself but rather the emerging sense of a lack of direction from the manager and the feeling that a succession of poor or average transfers seem to be derailing the project. But perhaps that is inevitable or otherwise the rags and dippers before them would have continued on endlessly winning leagues. Maybe we have reached the end of an era. Our job is to ensure it does not give rise to another 30 plus year famine.

Not sure about that. We need to buy the best if we want to be the best. If we don't get what we want better to hold out for another day. I really don't see how this team, with Rodri back can't get top 4 next season particularly if we are in the Thursday night Cup. Either grealish or a rejuvenated Phil would be better as our play maker than brining in a substandard version of Wirtz. Now we all know that will not happen under the current manager.

Rooney doesn't understand VAR. The referee was unsighted so didn't see the play, the linesman was behind the play so couldn't see if the handling was in the box or not, so couldn't advise or overule the ref, so no foul was given on field. VAR can ONLY overrule the on-field decision if EITHER it was a penalty, OR it was a red card offense - either a serious foul or denial of an obvious goal opportunity by the last defender. We all agree it was outside the box, so VAR can't interfere on that basis as it therefore couldn't be a penalty. Erling hadn't actually touched the ball before Dean got a hand to it, so it clearly wasn't in his control, so it fails on the denial of a goal opportunity point as well. VAR therefore could not have interfered. Yes, you can argue that Erling probably would have got the ball under control if Dean didn't push it aside, but that's not the test: did he have the ball under control at that moment? No, clearly not.

Relatively neutral here, A TEAM beat a collection of individuals yesterday. There's a photo on facebook of Foden, his Mrs and one of his son's all glammed up for some event or other. Doubt there's similar of Palace players. Too much
celebrity status, has it all gone to there heads?

Still absolutely fuming a joke of a decision and fuck all will be done about it
Me too. I just hope it will fire up the players for the last 2 games, and maybe we will get a big decision in our favour.

Would then mean every missed free kick was given? Games would last about 4 hours.

They had to decide if it was a DNGSO and, incorrectly, decided it wasn't. Once that decision is made there's nothing else to be done, regardless of if the ref or assistant had seen it it would have been a free kick and yellow at minimum
I am not suggesting that every potential free kick should go to var (but even if the missed ones did I don't think that the game would last for 4 hours!), however the one yesterday was definitely clear and obvs and should have been subject to a sanction.
The moment in the game was important.
