You can't make a statement like "it’s widely accepted & acknowledged" without elaborating on who has acknowledged this.
I don't think Pep has gone soft at all. I think the glue that bonded our footballing exec has worn over the years.
In the past there seemed to be a well oiled process for bringing in new players (everyone knew there'd be a season to bed in, but then usually they'd become a seamless cog in the machine).
But over the past few years that process seems to have broken, our whole onboarding process, from getting the players we actual want, to having good alternatives when we don't, to integrating them into the squad and team. It all seems a bit less organised and structured now. Txiki Begiristain leaving is symptomatic if these problems for me.
For me, this has impacted Pep massively, where he used to have a library of 'Pep style' players to select off the shelf, now he has a selection of good players, but who don't all look like 'city' players.
Some would argue that Pep is a part of that exec team so it's partly his fault, I agree. Some would argue that Pep should adapt his own style to cater for these players, transform himself maybe. But whatever you say, I don't think "he's gone soft" can be one of them.
