Bernardo Silva: “Something has to change. You learn who you can go to war with, first of all"

You can't make a statement like "it’s widely accepted & acknowledged" without elaborating on who has acknowledged this.

I don't think Pep has gone soft at all. I think the glue that bonded our footballing exec has worn over the years.

In the past there seemed to be a well oiled process for bringing in new players (everyone knew there'd be a season to bed in, but then usually they'd become a seamless cog in the machine).

But over the past few years that process seems to have broken, our whole onboarding process, from getting the players we actual want, to having good alternatives when we don't, to integrating them into the squad and team. It all seems a bit less organised and structured now. Txiki Begiristain leaving is symptomatic if these problems for me.

For me, this has impacted Pep massively, where he used to have a library of 'Pep style' players to select off the shelf, now he has a selection of good players, but who don't all look like 'city' players.

Some would argue that Pep is a part of that exec team so it's partly his fault, I agree. Some would argue that Pep should adapt his own style to cater for these players, transform himself maybe. But whatever you say, I don't think "he's gone soft" can be one of them.
Great post, our execs became arrogant and complacent, our recruitment is appalling, we are happy to bring in "project players" to flip in a couple of seasons at profit but Haaland, Gravidol apart our first 11 signing have being appaling, we have wasted hundreds of millions on crazy fees and more so wages to sign players that were never and never will be good enough.

You think it’s blind faith to believe in Pep ?
W-O-W ! Or I’m a happy clapper for believing he will get it right, I wasn’t on the forum during Pep’s first season, but I reckon there was a fair bit of this
Yeah, that’s true about the way it was in his first season. I thought as the first season went on you could see what he was building towards and was confident we’d win the league the next season. I still think Pep deserves the chance to get us back to the top but can’t actually see what we’re building currently. We don’t even have a particular playing style other than keep the ball.

I suppose at the end of the day even great managers need great players. We’ve not signed many truly great players for a long time.It eventually catches up and we’re at a point now where we really need to get the next few transfers right.

PB you have really disappointed me. That remark is not what I would expect from you. Bernie has been a mainstay throughout all his time with us and continues to give 110% and more.

To be honest just for his cuppa in the line up for the wrong end of the East Lancs lot gives him enough kudos in the bag to last a lifetime without his stalwart efforts on the pitch.

Beneath you that remark. :-(
It was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek remark reflecting Bernardo's propensity to pick up the ball, turn clockwise, run sideways, turn anti-clockwise and run sideways again, rather than as a comment on him as a warrior. Bernardo and KDB are definitely two you'd want in the trenches with you.

Serious question - I don’t think Jack looks bloated. I actually think he looks very fit. What do you really think the problem is?

What do I think the problem is with Grealish? He's an unprofessional dickhead. Basically gave up after winning the treble and is now just enjoying his life as if he's on some 24/7 lads holiday. And he's is massively bloated mate. He looks about a decade older than he did two years ago.

Different circumstances and trajectory - only a fool would have thought he wouldn't make a success of it here and everything had been geared up for him coming. I was optimistic a few games ago - not because of the results - but we had a bit of resolve and fight back - then he changed it too much - again! I don't NOT believe he can get it right again - but it will take a lot of self reflection and change on his part too.

Rubbish. Pep has chronically under utilised him.

Yeah, I think I'll be backing our manager when it comes to stuff like this. Guardiola has given that waste of space every opportunity to show he's got the hunger and fight in him to play for City, and at every turn he's been let down. He's more arsed about nights out in London than he is about City.

Thought the same when I saw a pic of him in the new kit actually.

I didn't instantly think Bernardos comments would be aimed at Jack because they seem to get on well, but laughing and joking is fine when you're winning. Now? They all should be working harder than ever.

Based on what you've said, Id guess Jack would be out of door whatever it takes in the summer - either cut-price or even on loan if that's what it takes?

He's getting Cancelo'ed. They'll yard him whatever it takes.

Jack is the problem, specifically his lifestyle. I'd argue we haven't been anywhere near ruthless enough with him.
Interesting how the 'problems' are the players not in the team and the 'players you want in the trenches with you' are playing week in week out, and have their fingerprints all over the poor performance this season.

I agree with you. I would be uber confident in the next 2 games if Jack played.

I watched him just staring into the crowd after the game on Sunday, looked really pissed off.

That said Peps sees day to day and makes his decisions based on that.

What happens on the pitch is what matters in case you hadn't noticed. He's been mismanaged, played out of position, brought on too late as a sub on countless occasions. Pep is the problem but you are too busy happy clapping to notice.

You see I knew I couldn’t be wrong in holding you in high regard. :-)

Again - I’m not having a go at you PB & BS - but is this opinion based on media attacks on Jack (for click bait) or do you actually know his lifestyle is the problem & if so what is he doing & where is he going? You have to know this in order to state it on here.

Him coming deep is by design and because Rodri is out. He's got enough game intelligence and engine to do it, but it's not ideal for him. That he's having to do it in games like this says that Gonzalez hasn't hit the ground running - that may just be a normal adjustment period for him, or it may be more. I expect the club had 'hoped' he'd be ready for these games quickly, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

BTW I like that he's come out and said what he's said. I've felt there were players hiding when we were in possession all season, they all need to stand up and act like City players or leave.
Yeah I don't mind his comments either but if coming deep is by design then he has to be more progressive with the ball. It's useful if the centre half's are getting pressed because he's a spare man with space ahead of him that the pressing players have vacated. Then you can just launch it towards Haaland. Don't need him coming back to make a pass the centre half's should be making or coming back and then giving it back to the centre half's. The purpose of him coming back should be to bring an opposition player out with him to make space for someone else or to make the passes the defenders can't BUT most teams just drop back against City so it's a totally pointless exercise
