Same place it always did. 20 players and a handful of kids.
Yeah I don't think its too hard to get there. Still some tough choices yes, but not too hard to rationalize imo.

I think Pep just wants about 3 or 4 less players, that's it, to balance the 4 that came in.

He was happy with the squad size at the beginning of the season, he isn't going to pad the squad just in case 7 or 8 players get injured, that has never happened to Pep before. I think he will just trust youth more like he said.

4 players coming in (2 mid, 1 RB, 1 LB, goalie change is like for like) means about 7 or 8 need to go.

And it's not hard to get to 6 at the very least:

Kevin
Grealish
McAtee
1 of Gundogan/Kova/Bernie (likely Gundogan imo)
2 of Stones, Akanji, Ake (likely Stones and maybe 1 more, this is where it gets trickier)

That's 6 gone right there.

Stones and Ake to anyone, Guehi in.
Would do the same any 2 from Nunes/Akanji/Rico for a starting RB too if i could. (Dream: Livramento)

Replace two with one reliable quality #Fantasystuff

I thought we had enough talent to still comfortably come 2nd after the January window. Pep just didn't adjust quickly enough to our new reality.
I agree mate . Should have picked certain players and we would have got second easily

Livramento is not reliable though. So might definitely need to keep Nunes

There was life after Ferguson too, so did United fans think.

Clubs can decline, success is far from guaranteed. Liverpool have won just 2 PL titles, United haven't won a title for 12 years now and are getting worse...

Those wanting Pep out might be surprised by how stupid they were. They don't understand that a season doesn't define you, especially a season after 4 in a row...

You keep the best manager in history for as long as possible.
Not if he's boring the life out of everyone. Hes close to leaving , somethings got to give.

Guardiola will get his way. He's got free rein from the owners until the day he leaves.

Viana will do what he's told.
Trouble is we got away with it particularly last season but Father Time caught up with a few plus injuries should have showed Pep there’s a massive difference between premier and the last two leagues he’s been in, if he goes for a small squad again and the injuries pile up again we would be fucked. Maybe this is Peps get out clause and his escape route.

Couldn't agree more.

That is one bloody good post. I doff my cap to you, sir.

To those calling for Pep to go; I'll remind you of an old proverb, "be careful what you wish for, you may end up getting it..

Here endeth the lesson!

Spot on Maverick. Go to the top of the class!

As much as I'd like to think it possible, I don't believe for one minute that Pep Guardiola and Hugo Viana are capable of 'rebuilding' a small squad of elite players... Particularly one that is capable of repeating / maintaining the level of success we've seen over the last decade.

I've said many times on here that Pep should have quit after we won the CL. At the very top.

I can’t see him wanting to continue if he's only working with relatively mediocre players. He knows there's a dearth of great players available, and that we're not the only club in the market for those that are.

Whether or not his threat is seen through remains to be seen, but I don't think it's a hollow threat. If he / Viana don't get a squad containing at least 75% genuinely 'elite quality' players, I think the writing will be on the wall, and he'll walk away.

It’s happened once in the nine seasons he’s been here, so surely this season is the outlier and in general his method has been justified?

This 100%

It will happen again. More games + WC next season. Especially someone like him who refuses to sub players but then gets mad that everyone is injured
