Ill give Arteta some credit here, watch his teams closely, when against a deep block he does some clever things, he gets his team to drop deep as well and gets his full backs or CH 'try' a long raking 60 yard pass - often it gets cut out and the opposition gets giddy and attack Arsenal.....but...Arsenal are set up for this. and set up a good trap here, he has a low block set in anticipation, Arsenal win in it back as they have quality tacklers tbf, and they counter attack fast. The game is chess now, you sacrifice, possession, space etc, to lull in other teams. Tbh City don't do this, we jog forward with the ball v a low block, not that imaginative in that scenario. No way can you entice a team out of their compact shape. We need to think more!
I guess that’s why it wins him premier leagues and champions leagues - oh wait Spurs won more than them.

100% top teams aren't as worried about possession anymore, just about how they can prevent conceding and when they have it, how well they can create opportunities. this is what XG is all about really, and top sides do analyse XG in terms of how much they have the ball v XG. Its no good having 80% possession v a low block and no real clear cut chances. The cup final was a classic case. Palace didn't mind us having the ball all day, as their one nil lead was fairly easy to defend against 9penalty aside). If we were lulling them in, counterattcking, being more imaginative etc... different game. I love Pep but the game is def not about possession ...it is about control though but only in key moments (defending and going for goal)
Our crossing is shit. That’s our main problem against a low block. Corners, free kicks, general crosses. Just utterly crap. Why we don’t work on these more I don’t know.

We have had a tough season. We don't need to be so hard on them but ignore the fact that it has been really hard for senior players too. Doku has world leading stats, and Savinho had 19 g/a in LaLiga at 19. Let's just get behind the two of them and I'm sure we will see them rise to great heights in a properly functioning team.
Hop your right mate because we are gonna need them to hit the ground running next season .

Doesn't discount what they're doing. They've been a very good team for multiple years now. We seem a bit stale. Hoping Pep can do one of his famous innovations and refresh us next season.

I very much hope so he will use CWC to practice new tactics, move away from this slow and safe approach, we need to run more, press more, take more risk, make it a nightmare for defenders rather than let them relax seeing Akanji and Dias doing passing training between them.

if he again does the same with Bernardo, Gundo, Kova playing all CWC and build slow attacks and have Haaland marked out all game etc then thats worrying.

we pretty much need to top the group albeit its not a difficult group. we advance even on 2nd place but then opponent in last 16 is Real Madrid straightaway otherwise its Salzburg I think.

I think we've been utter shite all season, even in the first dozen games or so when we were winning. At that point I was hoping we could hang on in until we started to perform as we still had players missing from summer. And then we fell apart. Whilst results have been better recently, we're nowhere near the level we have been previously.

And yet we're 3 points behind Arsenal. They may look good, but they're not very good at actually winning matches and have had a drop in levels not far off ours even though you'd expect them to have more hunger.

Our problem imo is that we simply do not shoot as much as we used to. We had the players to shoot from the edge of the box and a bit further out and a couple of very decent strikers to mop up rebounds and keeper saves. The cup final was crying out for this. Agree with the crossing though.

Kev, Rodri & Phil were all capable of scoring thunderbastards quite regularly in the past.

Savinho, Doku, Gundo (apart from THAT one) Bernie, Grealish all don’t have it in their locker.

Its the end of the season, the players are too fucked to implement a full on thing i expect. Dont expect to see much intensity for the CWC.

Apparently we have scored more goals from outside the box then any other team in the Premiership this year.

i can't believe that anyone other than bean counters is actually taking this charade of a 'tournament' seriously.

Treat it like a normal pre-season tour, leave tired players at home, bed in as many new signings as possible, try a few new ideas, come back with no injuries. That's all that matters.
