The Squad planning thread

According to pep yesterday, there's no chance of is getting through the 5 or 6 signings needed, and the ones we are linked with don't inspire.

This rebuild will be a few years in the making and that's if they finally have a good window.
Don’t need 5 or 6. 4 will do.Even 3 at a stretch.

Think it be another 2/3 max

4 new players wont be enough to win the league.

Especially when you look at who we are linked with and how bad our transfer policy has been in recent seasons.

Get 3 through the door, and yeah I agree we will be competitive for top 5 again.
The right 4 and we will compete to win the league. Add 4 plus Rodiri,Foden Bobb and the January additions settling.
We have been the best team second half of this season, finishing a point behind arsenal with more wins and more goals.

is all we need
We need some better quality out wide as well.

Our midfield has taken a good kicking from people this season ( correctly so at times) but they aren't helped out by the poor options we have out wide.

We struggle to capitalise when our midfield is on top, due a real
Drop off in meaningful play from wide players.

All that's said, I'd genuinely settle for just 2 really good first team signings if we can't get what we need.

That's better than 4 or 5 average squad players, which is kind of the direction we have taken recently.

If Pep is to believed he want only a few players

So I prioritised, where we are short

As formpur wingers, they need to start producing of get shipped out, I have already stated I would go for Mbuemo and Ezze to improve our wide options and if necessary sell one of doku or savinho

Why does anyone actually listen to pep and take him literally.
He isn’t gonna say anything about transfers right now, why would he.
Players will be leaving and he will tell them personally not through the media. Don’t forget these are players he needed to get a job done on the last few weeks.
Also he is not gonna tell other clubs he needs a right back, left back, two midfielders, a winger and a goalie.

Pep, viana and txiki will all know exactly what the plan is - but they ain’t telling anyone.

If we go into the season having only signed 3 or 4 players then we're in for a long season next year. The managed decline of our squad has been piss poor. And if it wasn't for Pep and his genius then we'd have finished mid table for the last 2 or 3 seasons.

Guardiol is sooo good and O'Reilly a great option there too, simply no need

Otherwise agree. Quality over quantity this summer, three world-class players in and six players out (KDB,Walker, Ederson, Grealish, McAtee, Akanji)

I don't really remember it is a back 3, more a back 4 with 4 Cbs at times (when Walker wasn't available). Akanji, Stones, Dias, Ake.

As Stones often pushed into midfield, it could appear that way though.
It was 100% a back four at Kick off but once the ball was in play we were 3 across the back and it’s the most solid a pep team has been defensively.

I also doubt we will ever see that again so with that in mind I’d go Reminders, Checkri, Williams and 2 full backs(take your pick which ones) although we should be in for Frimpong.

Rejinders for kev, central attacking midfield
mbuemo for McAtee Right sided attack
Livermemto for walker Right back
Eze for Doku Left attacking midfield
Ait-Nueri for Akanji Left Back
Costa for Ortega/Eddie?, Goalie

Nunes sold to forest
Stones sold to ???

would be my summer targets

4 new players wont be enough to win the league.
Depends on who those four players are and whether they address the fundamental issues most fans agree on.
Last season we lost key players through injury. I understand Pep wanting a smaller, fitter squad where rotation is by design rather than necessity.
I don’t think Pep is going to announce we are having a huge overhaul which would only ping the pound signs for agents and clubs galore.

Its not the number of players we get, its who.: Reijnders, Rodrigo, Robinson may be enough.

Players who have been fit but not played much are surely off
Grealish
McAtee

keV gone

Walker
Phillips
Will certainly leave

Permanently injured is more difficult as who will sign Stones.

I would keep him as if he can give us 15 games next season that may be useful as if fit he's our best CB.

Can't keep Ake as well. So that's 6 out.

GK: Costa
LB: Ait Nouri
RB: Wesley
CM: Reijnders
10: MGW

I reckon it’s already sewn up, if they were on average £50m each that’s the £250m gone.

I don’t expect anyone else to follow other than maybe another keeper to replace Ortega.

I hope we sign most of these players fairly quickly. The inns and outs need to be quick this time around.

2 weeks from now I would expect at least mgw, ait and Reijnders.

Cambiaso still sitting on his suitcase. I expect that to be sewn up early but link seems dead.
