Hugo Viana | Director of Football

Yep. Who are their agents? Just askin’.

Reijnders' agent is his dad. Here's a piece I found about his dealing with AC Milan...

Martin, acting alone, showed up one day at Casa Milan to negotiate his son's transfer to the Rossoneri:

"I never felt uncertain about it. It's simple: I want the best for my children. I have a healthy business sense and common sense", as relayed via Milannews.it.

He added:
"I have no idea how clubs and agents who receive certain amounts organize themselves. But that's not my concern. My interest is finding the best for Tijjani. In my opinion, 90% of agents aren't that useful."

On interest from other clubs in Tijjani Reijnders:
"Tijjani was also of interest to some English clubs. This also went through intermediaries. Only at Barcelona did I speak directly with Deco, the technical director. Then I checked his profile picture to see if it was really him."

In addition to Milan, Barcelona also had their eyes on Tijjani Reijnders in the summer of 2023, the player's father said:
"Of course, it's flattering that they had him in their sights; after all, we're talking about Barça. But they were looking for a replacement for Sergio Busquets. I immediately told Tijjani: 'You are not that type of player. Before you know it, you'll end up on the bench. And you'd become yet another player who fails abroad."

The last paragraph is quite interesting from the point of view that he views a bench role (i.e. squad rotation) as being failure.

That was in the context of him going from Alkmaar. His father was correct to advise him to go to a club where he would get game time, but he also knows that we’ll rotate as well. His father was a player and manager in the Netherlands, with a wealth of experience in the game, and his other son, Eliano, is also a professional.

Reijnders, Cherki, Ait-Nouri in the bag and currently chasing after Livramento, Costa and one more player. Not to mention Klopp's assistant manager and a set-piece coach. Can't lie, Viana seems to know what we want and need.
I think we have done brillantly so far plus the ones we bought in January like Kusanov, Marmoush, and Nico Gonalez. When you add in some of the fantastic youngsters we already have the future looks very bright.

Got to say Hugo don't mess about - the next big test will be how we reduce the playing staff without giving players away.

I'm impressed with his negotiating skills thus far.
