North Stand Construction Discussion

They can request it. Rumours that Everton have asked for their first 3 games to be away from home but that would be unprecedented because the league rules are that you can only play a maximum of 2 games away in a row, unless a fixture has been rescheduled due to cup clashes.
Based on that then Sisk would have to be off the pitch the lastest on thw 12th of July. Or the 5th if the first game is at home. Including removal of the set-up, which as we have seen has taken a good week to put up.

I'd say it looks more than doable from the latest drone images yesterday. Our last game was 3 weeks ago tomorrow. The roof is probably 30% dismantled. Suppose the complications will come from the existing cable ring as all load for the new roof has already been sorted.

After the old roof is dismantled, other than removing the setup(Probably a weeks work?), does anything more need to be done on the new stand from the pitch?

That's where the time will go. The removing will be easy, the moving, manouvering and transporting out the big beams will be the thing that takes time. I did wonder If they would actually do it in coupled bays without stripping the purlins back everywhere. Seems a bit big for that, but would speed it up no end it they could. Then they can have a team dismantling it on the ground while another disconnects at the roof.

Seeing them disconnect the cable from the support will be good. Given it is exposed and visible from the inside rhere will presumably be some finishing involved to make good on where the connections met the binding plates. Which presumably is easist done at this stage when the cranes are on the pitch for access. So there is that time to factor in as well.

Like the bee ;)
That one was a specific push by the planners. Not necessarily the bee pattern itself, but that the panels had something more refined than basic louvers. Does look good, will give it that. And I did say as much for that element of it when it first appeared on the mock-up bay.

Some right detail in there for those into the nuts and bolts of it all.

I was hoping for some mass destruction and tearing down but looks like I'm going to be sadly disappointed ;)

You can bet it will be away to 1 of the 3 promoted teams, to one of the other 4 top 5 CL teams, or Everton away. (and their new stadium)

There is not needing so much light, and then there is not having any whatsoever. Zero. Sorry mate, I find that odd, I stand by that. And yes I know what a museum is.

Particularly as they introduced 'light voids' internally. Even if they did want it completely pitch black in there, surprised they are building it the way they are. I.e permanently solid/opaque, rather than blanking it from the inside. It makes it almost certainly impossible to change that or adapt in the future.

As they'd need to remove the etfe roof and structure, put up cranes/scaffolds, strip off sails and remove fully sealed external walls above and below operating floors. Then reinstate all. As opposed to just removing internal blanking panels from the inside for a bit of future flexibility. They seem pretty commited to whatever is in there having no windows.

I don't think it's odd. They clearly want to create a certain experience with the museum and it's not odd at all for museums to be dark spaces. I also don't think you need to build in flexibility for it to adapt in the future. It's going to be a big feature with a hell of a lot of trophies and as every year goes by we add more to our history from 2008.

I stand by my take. Sorry, I do find it odd.

I do get your point, and others who have tried to rationalise it. In principle, sure, of course. But that's two whole floors of circa 1300m2 each, with no windows at all on any of the 4 sides. At this scale though, with this amount, and this type of construction - sorry, it is counterintuitive at best, and odd at the least.

But like the rest of you, can't wait to actually experience it in person!

The somewhat positive of it I guess is they clearly know what they want from it and what they have planned inside it, to commit to that ay this point. And I have checked back through the amendmet of August '24, they have indeed covered the change to glazing at that point. Well, to the west elevation, to the east one facing the square, the approved ammendment showed two portions at either end of solid, on L3 and none on L4, somewhat different from what is being built.

The club wouldn't know that till the fixtures are announced though would they? Unless there are mechanisms by which they can request that, for Sisk to then plan accordingly.
They can ask for first and last games to be away to facilitate infrastructure changes I said to Sisk guy at the open event that 2024/25 last game was away for that reason and he confirmed

If you've ever had the misfortune to visit the rag museum behind their north stand you'll know that that has no windows either - so no surprise to me either.

Are they installing new screens in the South Stand corners? If not people sat in the new North Stand wont be able to see replays/VAR decisions etc

It appears a screen is being added to the south east corner. No confirmation yet on the other south corner but some comments have been made here insinuating it will be redeveloped into a new box or viewing platform of some type.

No, Marvin is correct. At the start of the season our capacity was declared to the PL as 52,900 and was then reduced to around 52,600 once the works increased. Upon completion our capacity will increase to 61,958 plus the executive suites overlooking the pitch.
I just checked, West Ham has 62.500 so my bad. Thanks for the info!

West Ham's capacity at their new ground has a complicated history. It can be configured to have a capacity of up to 67,000 but the lease, or agreement is set at 62,500. Here's an explanation from West Ham https://www.whufc.com/news/articles...ed-granted-permission-london-stadium-capacity

I believe City's record attendance at the Etihad was 54,603 against Leicester City in 2016. And you will find references online to a capacity of 55k. Since then we took out 3 rows of seats at the front of the ground to facilitate large advertising hoardings. The North Stand expansion may have also temporarily reduced some capacity at the back of the 2nd tier. In 2023/24, before work on the North Stand started we averaged 53,346. When we applied for planning permission for the new stand, the documentation described the capacity as "54,048 following the expansion of the South Stand in 2014".

This season some websites give our average attendance to be 52,847. In February 2025 we played Liverpool at the Etihad and the official attendance was 52,803. There would have been some empty seats due to segregation and there would have been some loss of seats due to work on the North Stand.

The covering letter put before MCC for the North Stand expansion said, "The expansion of the Etihad Stadium North Stand to provide an additional net capacity of 7,910 and an increase in the overall stadium capacity of up to 61,958".

Note pre works capacity of 54,048 + 7,910 results in 61,958.
Thanks. I just checked it and West Ham does indeed have 62.500 seats. I've heard from a lot of West Ham fans that they aren't too satisfied with the current stadium because it's too far away from where their core fans live. Also that it's too big so the fans feel detached because they are not close to the pitch.
