Tino Livramento

I shudder every time I see someone say a random squad player "could do a job" at right back.

A year ago we didn't need to replace Alvarez because we had about twenty players who could "do a job" as a false nine.

Let's address our one real remaining weakness when the transfer window reopens. It's not like we don't have the money.
Exactly. I don't want someone who can do a job, I want someone to replace Kyle Walker as a world class right back for the next 10 years, because make no mistake, we're replacing the best right back in the world. Someone who regularly went up against the likes of Vinicius Jr and Mbappe and didn't give them an inch over two legs.

One of the main reasons we've struggled with left backs is precisely because Walker was so good, so opponents would concentrate their attacks down our left instead.

Guess the question is if Livramento is that guy

No-one right now is as good as a prime walker, Hakimi is closest but still not Prime Walker

Not sure Livramento is that good, hes got room to grow but its a risky transfer

Walker was in the Team of the Season like 2 or 3 times at Spurs before we bought him

We also need someone who can seriously defend in order to get the most out of our new left back. Someone who can form a back three when Ait-Nouri wants to venture forward.

I don't know if Livramento is that guy but he's the first right back I saw completely shut down Doku without needing a teammate to come and help him. He's also much better on the ball than Walker ever was.

Either way, we'd be a much better team with him lining up at right back, rather than a midfielder who isn't good enough to start in midfield.

It’s risky but it’s even more risky thinking we can get away with playing Nunes or Lewis there for another season neither are good enough and other teams will exploit that weakness.

I don’t think it’s risky at all. This kid is one of the best one v one fullbacks around and has been playing for a very good premier league side. At 22 he’s the perfect age to be our right back for years. He’s not as quick as Walker but is quick and is a better actual footballer already than Walker ever was.

Yeah, and if Khusanov becomes our first choice CB over time, then the pace thing will be less of an issue. You only really need one super rapid player in the back line.

He's not risky at all. He's the sure bet!

The risk would be going for someone like Wesley who we know nothing about and paying a big fee for him. Livramento is proven quality. He's always been brilliant, even at Chelsea as a kid. Made you wonder why Chelsea ever let him go as he was one of their most talented players every time they played against us.
He's a well rounded full back with a very good attitude who's very good defensively, can play both sides (if we have injuries) and is also good going forwards. I think with a good football coach behind him he could be a world class full back for the next decade.

And, don't forget, won PL young player of the year over Sergio in 2011-12.

I like the look of this lad and think he could be a good player for us. But all signings are a risk and the bigger the money the harder to fix if it goes wrong.

Ultimately all of our opinions are irrelevant those at the club will decide if they want to take the risk and how much we are willing to pay.

And yes I know this forum is for opinions and this is mine.

What’s happened with Cambiaso ?

Clearly changed our mind on him but why ?

I done not know about him but seems like he could play both side more than Ait Nouri or Livramento. Surely that’s beneficial ?

Also he cuts inside which is Pep style

The sad thing is there’s barely any good HG players.

I was thinking about how insane it is that Newcastle fans want 80-100 mil for him.
Like what happened to the world
If we’re paying stupid money I would get Hakimi then fill the HG quota some other way.
Trafford, MGW or
Aina as a stop gap then find the next amazing RB

We could rationalise the 80 mil and say he could be our Walker and play for the next 10 years. So it makes sense. But it’s still ridiculous.
Livramento still plays for the u21
MGW isn’t even a starter on the NT
Wharton is decent but we already have that position stacked
Eze isn’t needed
Rogers ain’t better than any of our players
Madueke is pointless
Bowen is a bagsman but he’s great for West Ham not sure about us.

You get the picture. Finding our best HG player sounds incredibly hard as you say. Can’t get around overpaying. Just have to hold it and move on
It’s not about filling a homegrown quota, we have got too many foreign players so any new signings have to be homegrown unless we have to cull more first teamers from the foreign slots

Gundo will go next year at the latest - so that is one down...there is potential that hegoes this summer but I dont think it will happen.
bernardo will go end of next season - thats another down
Kova will likely also go end of next season
Ake?

Going forwards he isn’t as good as Nunes, he’s more Walker than Cancelo, but perhaps that’s what we need.

Injuries probably. Has had a nagging quadriceps injury

Not home grown may be an issue?
I make it 18 of our current squad being not either homegrown or under 21 (born after 1 Jan 2004). However, when you go to the Champions League, there are four more players who haven't been at the club long enough to count as under 21 even though they do in the Premier League (Khusanov, Reis, Savinho and Echeverri). The limit for both competitions is 17, so we already need to lose someone.

Agreed, we had a random squad player (Akanji) trying to "do a job" at right back in the cup final and he was driving me insane. Didn't have a clue what to do once he got within spitting distance of the Palace box and offered absolutely nothing in terms of getting past the packed defence.

Give me an actual full back who can defend but also provide at least SOMETHING as an attacking threat, even if it's just a half decent cross.

ACL tear kept him out for a year and a half until 2023, think that was a factor in our decision not to go for him at Southampton. Seems to have had some ankle problems since but 80 games for the barcodes now.
