Grooming gang scandal

It will be interesting to compare Baroness Casey’s review and the forthcoming inquiry to the findings of the one that was published in 2020. Here are some comments about this previous meta-analysis (if that is the correct descriptive term) by Peter Oborne taken from his book The Fate of Abraham. Oborne’s discussion of this issue extends over several pages but the following extract gives the gist of it:

I have said in previous posts that this enquiry was inevitable, it was only a matter of time. I thought we might have had to wait for the next government though I did think it was possible that under pressure, Starmer might authorise an enquiry but make sure it was not published until after the next election. Given that is 4 years away it will interesting how this plays out. The walls were inevitably closing in on him on this though but even so given his previous stance and comments I imagine Baroness Casey must have held a political gun to his head to get this done.
That said, he has done the right thing so well done for that.

But do I believe this cogent passage from an erudite writer who has clearly done his research, or some click-baiting thundercunt on YouTube? It's a tough one.

Or should you instead acknowledge the fact that Baroness Casey, who after being tasked with performing an audit of the available data on grooming gangs - and crucially identifying the shortcomings around these data - now feels that a full national inquiry is required in order to provide a full picture?

If only she’d read that one page from the erudite writer - would save a lot of time and money.

I don't think the full national enquiry being necessary (it very much is, obviously) was the point the poster was making with that extract. But you're a smart guy, so I'll let you figure out what he was getting at.

Agreed.
Arguments caused by many on here previously towing Starmer's line that no enquiry was necessary, far right bandwagon etc. It's done now.
Hopefully the cunts still at this with impunity will think twice and stop, the cunts that have been at it in the past and think they got away with it won't sleep soundly in their beds tonight or any other night and likewise the cunts responsible for failing to protect these girls. The girls themselves may finally believe they will be protected by the law and the state as they should have been and once the failure of the state is established they can be supported and compensated to build a life for themselves.
 
Not sure anybody didn’t want the truth uncovered/investigated, they just didn’t need the latest social media campaign to demand X to be announced at their behest.

No one knows what has made the necessity for a national inquiry to be needed now, but not before.

What we do know is that it hasn’t been instigated by populist social media grifters.

Still, it’s telling that most on here haven’t concentrated on the inquiry beginning as the topic has never been about the victims for them, merely point scoring.

It’s another example where the government have listened and changed their policy. To their detractors, that shows weakness and an avenue for attack.

Yet, they’ve got what they’ve wanted all along, but don’t focus on that.

It’s as if the inquiry wasn’t that important to them.

That's obvious, isn't it?

Labour took actions, one of which was to ask Baroness Casey to do an audit of the evidence, and one of her conclusions was that there should be a national inquiry.

Having asked her to do the audit, Labour was unlikely to refuse the recommendation (and got the announcement out before the Casey review was published).

See below, and - from Rape Crisis - "There have already been inquiries into group-based offending, which have varied in quality and effectiveness and are often time-consuming and very costly. Inquiries can actually stall progress, with the same issues coming up time and time again."


One issue is of course whether police and/or councils turned a blind eye to some gangs because of their race, but you must know that the loudest calls for another inquiry have come from people who would not be asking for an inquiry if all the gangs were white (as most are).
