As much as I loved Leroy, it was no coincidence that Pep dropped him more often than he did Raheem. When he was on it he was fantastic to watch. But it didn't happen consistently enough. He's taken on a sort of mythical status with a lot of fans because of how good he was on his day. I remember at the time it was often a comparison to Sterling with the belief Sane would be the better player. But 100 goals in 355 games for City and Bayern for Sane vs 131 in 339 at City for Sterling suggests otherwise.
On his day, he was dynamite, but those days were too few and far between.
Having said that, there was no better sight for me than watching Merlin slide a pass between the right centre-back and the right-back for Leroy to sprint on to, which often led to a goal.
That was a wonderfully entertaining side.
